Redfern: Nobody wants to annex Poland, i can say it as Russian. No, really, we have some neutral-to-cold feelings to each other, but to annex Poland?
First, its in EU, right? So, annex would lead to freaking real war - nobody wants it
Second, dont see any real gains from annexing Poland in material way, only thing we import from there is apples...
Except the russian diplomats who want to create second Soviet Union where they would be masters and the rest of society would be slaves .
The truth is that without diplomats and glorifing Stalin and Soviet Union,
Poland and Russia with similar mindset would be BFF.

lukaszthegreat: and steaks. don't forget.

Redfern: Right now Russia imports most of "animal" meat from Brasil, so...
i actually just checked what you guys are getting from us and beef was mentioned few times. I don't know how much is it in comparison to the totality of your "animal" meat import.

hedwards: As far as Putin goes, he gets a lot of credit for things that have nothing to do with him. Yes, the lives of Russians are better now than they were previously, but that was already starting before he came to power, and the give him an awful lot of leeway despite his absolutely appalling record on human rights.

Starmaker: Go live in a fire, non-fatally.
LOL. And you wonder why Russia has credibility issues. It's astonishing that they let you guys have an Olympics, what with your appalling human rights record.

Politicians and rulers in general want to be remembered as strong men and women. Its not like conquering a country is necessarily about material gain but more just kinda ego booster and global-willy-extender.

...personally i think thats sort of worrying, especially as "Putin has never been wrong, will never be wrong and even if he was - he certainly wont admit it.". Huge part of his politics are about building and maintaining face really. And for some reason alot of russians apparently think thats mark of "Strong Leader(tm)".

That's a point that I think people would do well to remember. W had the same sort of problems as well. But unlike W Putin effectively refused to step down and had things changed to allow him a chance to linger beyond what he should have. Same goes for Chavez down in Venezuela, in the short term he was and is very popular, but he pretty much burned the economy to the ground to do it. I don't think anybody in their right mind is going to want to invest down there as the government is very active in terms of seizing foreign assets when convenient.

The absolutely worst politicians are those who think they are irreplaceable and cannot just give up.
If Russia invade Poland, everyone pay cheap Rubel price, comrade. Is good price for good soviet worker person. Nastrovje!
I don't want to start a new thread but I'm really pissed off by the INVASION (yes, that's what it is, they've even put snipers on some roofs) of Obama in Brussels. I remember when Putin came two years ago, he had the decency to stay low-profile and not messing with the daily lives of the local citizens and workers (although, I nearly got run over by his ecort...).

Agree. Putin really loves to think that he rebuilds USSR or something, loves to talk about "superpower" and "foes around", a lot of peoples listen to his words and imagine his right, but there is still pretty lot of peoples who call him "Обещалкин" - hard to translate into english, kind of "one who only give a promises".

I would translate that as "Politician".

Same feeling. some public transport lines suspended since 8:30 A.M. , in case of, with an arrival around 7:00 P.M.
Snipers, choppers, barbed wire in the streets. 10 millions € spent for that. As if the Shah of the Shas, Emperor supreme, was visiting one of his provinces.
But we finns have our special guy, who has penetrated his head with a sword: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/ae/Coat_of_arms_of_Finland.svg
