[url=http://www.gog.com/promo/might_magic_universe_2]The Vast Universe of Might and Magic on GOG.com is filled with all-time classics with a 50% discount. If you have anything important to do in coming days, please reschedule, because such favorites as Heroes of Might and Magic III or Might and Magic VI will keep you busy, well, forever. The offer doesn’t last forever but only until next Monday, April 9th at 11.59 p.m. EDT.

Heroes of Might and Magic is probably the most recognizable, acclaimed, and legendary of the whole Might and Magic series. It’s a game that set the standard for turn-based strategies for years to come--one may argue that HoMM created a genre of its own, while every fantasy strategy nowadays will be compared to this amazing series. HoMM is a combination of strategy (many opponents, many castles, many heroes), RPG (gathering experience and leveling), resource management (gathering resources, managing armies) and pure awesome, something between the cracks that makes the game so special. It doesn’t matter whether it's Heroes of Might and Magic, Heroes of Might and Magic II: Gold Edition, Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete, Heroes Chronicles: All Chapters, or Heroes of Might and Magic IV: Complete--each of them is a game so simple to understand and yet so insanely addictive that it will make you want to play “just one more turn” over and over again. If you’ve never played as the Hero, we recommend starting with Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete Edition--the title considered to be iconic to the series, the magnum opus of 3DO. All the HoMM games on GOG.com are only $4.99 this weekend.

If you already own all of these, you can also pick up Heroes of Might and Magic V Bundle, which includes both of the game’s expansions (Hammer of Fate and Tribes of the East) and more than 170 minutes of soundtracks, an official artbook, wallpapers, avatars, design sketches. Pick Heroes of Might and Magic V up for a limited time together with Assassin’s Creed: Director’s Cut Edition on a special introductory sale: buy one, get one free for $19.99.

Might and Magic, on the other hand, is a series of RPG games set in the same universe. From the deepest dungeons to the intrigues of the royal court, lead a band of adventurers on a dangerous journey of amazing depth and intelligence. Develop your characters through an unique skill point system and take part in an epic clash between the Ancients. Gather your forces, forge new alliances and destroy all who oppose you. The fate of the world is in your hands!

Might and Magic 6 pack includes: Might and Magic: Book 1, Might and Magic 2: Gates to Another World, Might and Magic 3: Isles of Terra, Might and Magic 4&5: World of Xeen, bonus adventure Swords of Xeen and Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven. After you’re done, get Might and Magic 7: For Blood and Honor, Might and Magic 8: Day of the Destroyer, and Might and Magic 9 to complete the Mightily Magical experience. If you’ve never played any Might and Magic games, we’d suggest you pick up the 6 pack for $4.99 and start with Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven. All Might and Magic games are 50% off only this weekend.
Hum, already buyed all these games in another promo, except Crusaders, maybe will pick this one to complete the collection
So, I've got HoMM 3 (since I basically grew up with it) from this list. I'm gonna get HoMM 2, any other worthy additions?

Obviously, HOMM 1
It's very good, really.
Well I am a HUGE HOMM series fan (played all games in the series except 1 and 6). But I was curious. What are all those other games? Are they good at all? I kind of heard about them , but never got interested enough to try. So what are those? A way to rip off extra cash off the series fans or really good spin-off games?
P.S. By the way I feel slightly weird now that I see e.g. HOMM 1 being only half the price of HOMM V.

Crusaders of Might and Magic is a blatant cash grab.

Heroes Chronicles (spoilerific reviews here) on the other hand is awesome (although it uses the HoMM 3 engine, which aged worse than that of HoMM2).

As for the Might & Magic RPGs (of which the HoMM series is a TBS spinoff), 1 and 2 are just dated and it shows, 3-5 are awesome, 6-8 are increasingly less awesome and 9 is a cash grab.

Thanks for heads up, I will have a look at those. :)
Chronicles actually look interesting (I am replaying HOMM III a bit now and surely not finding it "that" old). :)

The Might & Magic RPGs actually came first, and HoMM was a series of strategy games set in their world(s). They feature a lot of the same characters and lore which is really cool. I'd definitely recommend them.

Heroes Chronicles is a set of 8 standalone campaigns for Heroes 3. But they're pretty good, so worth checking out.
I've purchased M&M9 and now my (Ho)M&M collection on GOG is complete.
I'm tempted to finally get one game of the Heroes series. So far I never really had good experiences with Strategy games, not even the ones that attracted me by their fantasy setting. Mainly Age of Wonders, which I found too hard, but also King's Bounty: The Legend, which I admit I didn't play for long because the combat was painfully slow on my rig, and Disciples, which I kind of like but I still failed to complete even the first mission. So maybe Strategy games just aren't my type of thing - but I always hear the HoMM series is the best, and I wonder if it's got a better chance of convincing me that the genre can be fun.

Which installment is your favorite and why? In which regard you think the third hasn't aged as well as the second, as Starmaker pointed out above (or do you disagree)? I'm also very curious about Chronicles: Does it have more / a better story than the regular installments? How long is a campaign? Is it a single mission or several of them, and if so, how many? How does it compare to e.g. HoMM3, how many campaigns does that one offer?

I'm grateful for any advice!

Meh, just bought HoMM 3 yesterday at $10 and now it's $5 :( If the game wasn't so good I'd be a little bit angry!

This thread might be good for you:
http://www.gog.com/en/forum/heroes_of_might_and_magic_series/best_one_to_start_with

About the campaigns:
Heroes 2 has two campaigns, each about 10 maps, plus a few new from the expansion, but I don't know how long they are.
Heroes 3 and each of expansions has several smaller (~5 maps, give or take) campaigns and some are accessible only before you complete all the other *in the succession*, so starting a campaign after you have finished one, not starting all of them and completing them as you want.
Heroes 4 is similar to Heroes 3, but I find some of them (mainly those from vanilla game) utterly superior to Heroes 3 ones.

HoMM3 is by far superior to the previous games, as it only makes the basic idea better. HoMM4 is... different. While I personally do not mind it (but do not find it as good), many ideas are changed and some things are added. For example completely different city structure and wandering creatures. It is a different kind of game.

I would recommend HoMM3. It has great re-playability value. The campaigns are also well made. Heroes Chronicles is just a bridge between HoMM3 and HoMM4, connecting the story and so on. I haven't played Chronicles yet though, so I cannot comment on the campaign itself.
