Ultima series, Populous, Wing Commander, Syndicate, Theme Hospital, SimCity 2000, and 20 more EA games 60% off.

Making games is more than just craftsmanship. Game development often goes into the realm of arts. Not just any kind of arts, mind you. Certainly not the unplugged kind. Nope. The electronic kind. If that's not a good reason to call your game developing and publishing company Electronic Arts, then I don't know what is. Established 30 years ago, EA is now one of the worlds biggest supplier of computer games and a synonymous of a gaming industry giant. As such, it offers a variety of titles from every and any possible genre. This weekend a [url=http://www.gog.com/en/promo/ea_weekend_promo_02_11_12/]Massive EA Selection of games is available 60% off on GOG.com. Let's look at some of the games that put the "A" in EA!

Richard Gariott's Ultima remains an icon of computer RPGs, and many gamers consider Ultima 7 to be the best entry in the entire series. Our Complete Edition includes all four chapters of the game--The Black Gate, Forge of Virtue, Serpent Isle and The Silver Seed--in one handy DRM-free package. Become the virtuous Avatar, the savior of Britannia, to discover the origin of many strange occurrences spreading across the land and to stop the mysterious malicious entity, known as the Guardian, from pushing the world into its doom. With countless hours of deep and satisfying gameplay, this one is a must for all the RPG fans! There's no reason to stop at lucky number seven, though. The whole Ultima series--including the groundbreaking 3D dungeon crawler: Ultima Underworld 1+2--is on promo, so you can experience every single adventure of the Avatar (formerly know as "the Stranger") 60% off!

What Ultima is to RPGs, the Wing Commander series is to the space sim genre. Follow the story of the war between Terrans and the feline menace Kilrathi in Wing Commander 1+2 and Wing Commander 3: Heart of Tiger, then once the world is over and a shaky alliance is formed with the cat-like aliens, face new enemies threatening the Confederation in Wing Commander 4: The Price of Freedom. The 3rd and 4th installments of the series use full motion video cut scenes to tell its elaborate stories and feature big names such as Mark Hamill, Malcolm MacDowell, and John Rhys-Davies as the Wing Commander universe prominent characters. You can also choose your own fate and pursue your goals as a mercenary, a trader, or even a space pirate in the series' popular open-ended spin-off, Wing Commander: Privateer. With the creator of Wing Commander series back in the game, and his Star Citizen on the way, it's a good time to revisit those wonderful games!

Not a space-sim or RPG fan? More of an armchair general? Not a problem! Thare's plenty of trategic/managarial games in our Massive EA Selection, as well! is the original "god game", giving you the ability to shape the world and the fates of its inhabitants in a multi-layered strategic gameplay. [url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/syndicate]Syndicate does pretty much the same thing, using the means of brutal corporate rivalry, cyber-implant technology, and espionage in a dark, dystopian future. Theme Hospital puts you in charge of a high-profile medical facility, making you--once again--the master of life and death. Finally, Sim City 2000 SE makes you the mayor of an aspiring virtual town, that wishes to develop into a metropoly.

That's just a little taste of our Massive EA Selection. Head out to the promo page to find out what 20 other great EA titles you can get 60% off this weekend on GOG.com!

Well, this sale helps me mark Dungeon Keeper 1, Dungeon Keeper 2, Magic Carpet and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri off my wishlist. I was hesitant about getting some of those without the expansions, but as I kept looking into those I found that the expansions didn't really add all that much or in some cases "broke" the games so I finally decided to grab them. Any day I can get four full retro games for just under $10 is a VERY good day for me. :)

serpantino: and Theme Hospital... is that still broken?
I've played Theme Hospital from beginning to end (just finished it yesterday).
I reccomend getting the sound fix on the Theme Hospital GOG forums if you remember the old Windows sound.
You may encounter some bugs, but those were in the original game too. However having said that I happily finished the game in 1 attempt with GOG's version. I remember getting a lot more problems due to game bugs with my old boxed Windows copy which sometimes prevented me finishing and having to start over.
I reccomend alternating save files anyway though, just incase (handy too for when things start blowing up and you can go back and fix them up before they detoriate).

JudasIscariot: There was a Hardware Acceleration Fix added to the game's downloads.

If you buy it and deem it is broken for your hardware/software configuration, we'll do our best to give you all the help you need. Keep in mind that any bugs that the game originally had when it was still gracing store shelves will still be there :D

That's interesting. Did you alter the Dosbox config? Did you not have any major slowdown issues? A lot of people (myself included) have found the game is slowing down to 5fps & under after a few levels. I've tried it on 3 separate pc's including my gaming pc (which is a pretty good spec) and have had the issue on all 3.

The topics in the Theme Hospital thread haven't really been touched upon by any mods etc. It's not a bug that was originally in the game either. You also have to remember that a lot of users who buy the games barely play them, if at all, for quite some time so the amount of feedback on it is unrealistic.

Nope. The only change I did was the sound fix posted here:

Didn't notice any no. I always start a level by picking the Slowest speed to set things up and then go to Normal during gameplay. Towards the end of the game I pick the fastest speed "And a little more". Speed-wise they worked as I expected.

My PC is at least a few years old.

System specs:
Windows 7 Home 32-Bit
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8300 2.50GHz
4GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT

When you have the time, could you send us an email to our Support department with this issue and the DxDiag files of those 3 computers you have that are experiencing issues with the game? The more info and hardware setups we get about this kind of thing, the better the chances that we can possibly find the root cause of it :D

I've long since uninstalled and given up on it but I'll give it a look when I have time (2 of the pc's are similarly specced as one is a HTPC and one is a Netbook with the same chipset). I recall one user saying it was down to GOG having the cpu cycles set too high, which would make sense as they do tend to poorly set up Dosbox configs.

Edit: Infact I'll download it again and give it a blast now on this pc :).

ioryadragon: yeah, keep buying from EA, i am sure they will take your money and destroy more good studious, just like they did with those that made these great games from this pack.

Wasnt "Our average sale tends to be around 40% – 50% off; that's plenty of incentive to pick up a game if you're interested or if you just think you might like to try it because you're not sure about the game, but not some crazy 75% or 85% discount that damages the long-term value of a game." GOG?

Ah right, for EA we bend over ....
Actually, it was the Interplay sale that had an 82% discount. This one is only 60%. ;) I wish it was the opposite. I like almost every game in this promo, and either didn't want or couldn't run every game in the Interplay promo.

As someone already pointed out earlier in this thread, EA bought most of these studios after they were essentially dead already. At least this way, we can still play the games they produced.

Maybe this?

The stuck bugs and speedproblem is solveable if you fiddle a bit with the game configfile. Try to reduce the cpu cycles of the game to 10 000 or less.
I didn't need to fiddle with the CPU Cycles but might be worth a shot for those who need it.Though this was in responce to someone saying the game was running too fast, so maybe you'd need to use a different CPU cycle setting if the game is running too slow even on the fastest in-game speed.

That's part of the issue though. Not everybody knows how to edit dosbox configs and a lot of games need editing by default for a lot of users, yet GOG doesn't offer an easy interface to do this or an automated system to do it. It's a bit of an annoyance when I get a gog game that's poorly set up in dosbox when I already own the game and could've done the same thing myself. Some games take a lot of fiddling to get working properly.

Ran Theme Hospital and it's sluggish from level 1, especially mouse movement. I'm running a Core 2 Quad @ 3.3ghz, 4gb ram, win 7 x64 & an Nvidia 660gtx. It does get better if I fiddle with it but I could've done that with my cd copy and saved myself some moolah. Few dosbox games I have bought here need no tweaking and the drm bypassing rather than drm free (as advertised) can be annoying when trying to get the dosbox games running on my mobile but that's a whole other issue.

EDIT: Maybe the issue isn't as widespread as I believed (there were a lot of posts about it on release week though.) in which case I'd not worry about my posts too much if you're on the fence about buying it, just remember you might need to fiddle a bit with it.

Have tried Privateer Gemini Gold today. Well, it's quite playable but still far from finished, though its version is 1.03 already, definitely not like the UQM to Star Control 2, since it's not a source port. So for those who were in doubt like me: either we should go and help with development (OSS philosophy) or just stick to the original. Buying. Hopefully we'll see other WC games with all their expansions here someday.

Good promo. We love EA that on GOG :)
Finally I purchased:
- Lands of Lore 3
- 3x Populous games
- Starflight
- Crusader: No regret

I cut down my Wishlist to 13 entries.
Sigh.

So I thought I could snag Wing Commanders 1, 2, and 3 along with Alpha Centauri and run.

But then the siren song called me back... Sim City 2000 for just over $2? And even Starflight too!

So yes. Thanks GOG. 5 games that are certain to keep anyone busy for months.
