I apologize if this wasn't the correct place to post this, but I wasn't sure where else to go.
I have a Visa Gift Card/Debit Card that I purchased from Wal-Mart and that is valued at $100. I've already used it for some online purchases on Steam with no issues, but when I try and use it here at GOG, it never accepts the card information. I've even gone online to the Walmartgiftcard.com website and made sure the card is registered, but the problem persists!
So here is my question:
Has anyone viewing this thread used a Wal-Mart Visa gift card to successfully make purchases online here at GOG.com? If so, did you have any issues at first? And if you did, what was the solution?
I've also sent an email to the support team by using the "Support" button at the top of the page, but they still haven't responded. I sent the e-mail at around 4 PM (Eastern time) yesterday, and now it's close to 10 AM (Eastern) and they still haven't responded. I'll wait several more hours so that the 24 hour mark is reached, but is it normal for them to take nearly 24 hours to respond to a simple e-mail asking if Visa gift/debit cards are accepted? Could someone clear this up for me, also? How long does it usually take them to respond?
I appreciate any feedback/information. I'm frustrated because my card processed just fine on Steam, but I'm not having any luck here. The game I'm trying to purchase, if that makes any difference, is the Megarace 1 & 2 pack for just $5.99.
Thanks,
-Chubz
can't say about GOG in particular, but those vista giftcards seem to cause problems in lots of places, at least judging by the forums i've visited.
web site support response time? 2 to 5 days seems about standard, though GoG are usually a bit faster than that.
GOG is based in Poland, while their servers are based in Cyprus and their billing service is based in the UK. Some gift/credit cards are restricted from making international purchases and you can't get much more international than GOG. I'd check with the card issuer to see if they have that kind of restriction.
Also, as you can probably surmise, GOG's support is in a different time zone than you. They usually respond within 24-48 hours of receiving a support request, but you sent in your support request after their normal business hours (sometime around 10 or 11 PM their time), so they didn't actually receive it until probably about 10 hours after you sent it.
Well, debit cards do definitely work, I have a Visa Electron, which is a Visa Debit card issued to minors and adults (If they'd rather have a debit card that is) in Denmark, it works just great with everything I've ever tried, I'm not sure about the gift cards though, especially not if they're from USA, do like cogadh said and ask Wal-Mart or email Visa about it.
On another note: Did you remember to set it as a Visa card :P? I know it should be obvious but not all people on the internet use their logic sense (No offense :P)
Thanks for the quick responses, guys. Much appreciated! I'll probably just wait a couple days or so and see if I receive a response from the Support folks. And yes, cogadh, that's a great point. Perhaps the Visa Gift Cards are not to be used for international purchases? It still seems odd because I would think any online purchase would be fine, but I do work for a credit card company so I know that international charges are not always processed the same way as regular charges are.
And yes, VirtualPenguin, I made sure and selected Visa from the options. The other two were Mastercard and PayPal, and I ensured that neither of those were selected. I actually tried to go through a PayPal account to see if I could somehow put money from my Gift Card into a PayPal account, but I never got anywhere with that, either, since PayPal appears to accept money only from bank accounts.
Thanks again for everyone's quick and helpful responses.
Hopefully I'll get something worked out eventually.

Did you activate it?
Alternately, is there a security code?
Those things are finicky.

Yeah, I went to the website and registered it. And yes, there is a three-digit security code on the card. It's the last three digits, and very clearly visible. I've used the same security code before with no problems.
I've been using a Vanilla Mastercard for about a year now with no trouble, if that helps you...
I attached it to my PayPal account and just pay instantly that way -- once the money is gone from the card it just takes it from my bank account...so no waiting or card fees.
Hope you get sorted.
If you go through PayPal it will work, I've used several of those Visa gift cards with PayPal, no problems whatsoever.
I used to use a generic $100 MasterCard gift card to make all my purchases on this site before it ran out and it worked without a hitch. Cant say the same for a Visa card but Im assuming the principal is the same. It may need activation.

Phan, could you help me with setting it up through PayPal?
When I log in to an account and go to "add funds," it just gives me the options of "from bank account" and "view transactions." Where would I go to enter the information for the Visa gift card? When I choose "from bank account" I'm asked for the routing/account numbers found on the bottom of a check. Obviously, this is of no use to me.
Thank you very much for the suggestion.
(P.S. 5 days now and no response from support. So much for getting any type of "support" from these guys. Funny thing: A friend of mine asked support a completely different question a month or two back and received no response, either. Makes you wonder if these guys even care about their customers and their questions.)

That's odd... I've bought several games on GoG with a Visa Gift Card with no problems.
Did you register your address and other information on the website? It says you have to do that before making any online purchases.

Yes, I registered that information. I just now checked and my address is correctly entered and my card should be registered.
Something I find odd is that when ordering a game, you're asked to enter the card number and name. The thing is, I don't ever recall entering a name when I registered my card - only the address. This may not have anything to do with it, but I just thought it was odd that registration of the gift card never required entering my first and/or last name.
That could be a problem, for one I know I can't order if I don't write the precise name printed on my card, which is shortened because all characters couldn't be on the card, that results in me having to only write half of my surname (last name, right?)
All I did was add it to PayPal as a credit card, I believe, it's been so long since I've used it.
