I got the retail of this some years ago, and never had any problems playing it straight out of the box....
That bloody abandoned hotel always makes me jump though. Bloody psycho ghost >.<
VTMB: Camarilla Edition has 6.5 built it and they will update to 6.6 once released.
VTMB Companion Mod, didn't know about, very cool.
Been playing this game since launch, and i still have fun. The drm is painful but easy to sidestep, and the fan patches keep it running smooth and perfect for me! Also ive had fun editing the hell out of it for the joy of it, i made The Sheriff Gman and Sebastian LaCroix was Gordon... man that was fun!
I was working on Therese and Jeanette making then 2 version of Alyx Vance, was actually going to replace everyone with HL2 cars but i got bored and stopped... though i could pick it up, and the people walking the streets could easily be replaced by the pedestrians of C 17. Speaking of, im going to just make C17 the new Vampire world, it really wouldn't be that hard. Oh hell yeah, just need to do some interior and exterior redesign... YAY I'll start this X-Mas!
Maybe sooner i need to stay busy till Torchlight comes out Jan 5th with TorchED

This was a really great game. I picked up a retail copy in the UK for 3 quid about 4 years back. Played it with the latest community patch (at that time) and really enjoyed it.
I didn't encounter any real bugs, and it felt pretty polished and playable by that point.
The opening levels had more depth than the later ones, but i don't remember any terrible ones. It was a really cool game. As close as i've seen to Deus Ex really.
I think Troika kind of shot themselves in the foot by being crazily ambitious as usual. It sure didn't seem like a game that had been "held back"*, more like a game that had been rushed out because they'd run out of time (or maybe money.) If they'd been able to fully flesh out the later areas, tweak the melee combat, and add in deus-ex style customisable weapons... it'd have been awesome.
Having such different games for all the eight(?) different vampires was rather crazy if you ask me. They should have picked 3-4 and made them awesome. It's a great game, but i'm not gonna replay it anytime soon, so a large amount of their work was totally wasted on me.

Navagon: Oh sure, they've stuck a price tag on it but NO SOUP FOR YOU!

I don't get it. It says available in UK, Ireland and NA. It's even marked as VTMB UK...
Is it your location the problem or something else ?
So, does anyone have a CLUE what DRM the D2D version uses? I REALLY want that game, and I was hoping Steam would put it on sale for Halloween (Devil I know...), but instead, they put generic modern shooter #35 on for $3 more than it should cost regularly.
I boguht 2 titles from D2D, but they were DRM free. Anyone have any insight on:
1) Which DRM VTM uses on D2D
2) How bad the stock D2D DRM is?

The location is the problem in so much as their pedantic enforcement of regional restrictions buggers up the Paypal payment process. As soon as it gets to the point where it asks for address verification it reports an error.

Ah, that really sucks.
Sorry mate, i wasn't aware.
Globalization...isn't it grand ?

Yeah ain't it just? So they wind up screwing over the few people they do want as customers. Ludicrous. But on the bright side, at least it means I've bought nothing from them.

Yeah, but this regional restriction bs it's still very silly.
I mean, it's not like we're shopping around for plutonium or warheads is it? It's a freaking video game...
I hope you manage to grab VTMB at some point cause it really is quite a unique and fun game. Maybe a *cough*steam*cough* sale...

I've already played it to completion as a Malakavian with a copy that would require significantly more coughing. So it's not the end of the world.

phanboy4: It's not Valve's fault, the only way they screwed Troika over was by giving them an early Source engine version that Troika had to heavily modify to bring up to snuff.
Troika shot themselves in the foot in two ways: 1. By making inventive, complex, well-written CRPGs, and 2. By consistently pushing out unfinished games, VtMB in particular.

Aliasalpha: Actually valve DID force a delay. I have a distinct memory of laughing at the thought that a HL2 engine game would come out before HL2 but then it was delayed at the behest of valve. I remember being pissed off with them because of it and being even less interested in HL2 than I already was. Hell the only reason I ended up playing HL2 at all was politeness when a mate gave me his spare copy after the orange box
All that said, if TMB was released that month or so earlier, it would have been in an even buggier and shoddier state os overall it was probably for the best

Valve did force a delay, but it didn't matter, Troika was already in the process of shutting down due to years of bad business decisions and releases of brilliant but hopelessly flawed games. VTMB was always going to be their "last hurrah" and whether they released it when they wanted to or after a Valve-forced delay, it wouldn't have changed anything; they still had absolutely no future projects of even prospective projects lined up. As it was, they laid off almost their entire staff immediately (as in mere days) after the release of VTMB. Several employees decided to stay on without pay to complete the last official patch, which says a lot about the dedication of Troika's employees to the game, but says even more about the sad state the company was really in. Just goes to show, brilliant game designers don't necessarily make brilliant businessmen.

Ah, ok then. Maybe not so good for the throat, but good for you.
And as a Malkavian...nice choice.
The day I find this game for 5 bucks on steam is the day I'll buy it. And only them I'll buy it. And patch the hell out of it before playing. XD
