Heretic777: A few months ago, i read an article where Gabe said that he wants to reward the players who add value to Steam games by just playing them. By having these players play the Steam games, it encourages new players to join and makes the overall gaming experience better for everyone, so Steam should not worry about trying to charge these good players $30 for a new game. Leave it to Gabe to come up with a new and innovative business model. I think he might be on to something.

I used to be an exclusive single player offline, but recently started playing online Steam games and really enjoy the interaction with other players. Having free to play Steam games is a great idea. I played Alien Swarm for 35 hours and really enjoyed it and made some new friends and it was FREE. Of course TF2 was great and FREE also :)

My current gaming obsession is Kiling Floor and its time to log-on...bye and maybe see you there.
Killing floor is very, very fun and the community is extremely relaxed. It is an amazing game, and a great experience.

Have not played in a while. Should probably have a match or two this week. Maybe.
I thought they'd been talking about this for awhile. I know it just hit the front page of Slashdot and several other sites, but I'm not exactly a Steam fanatic and I heard about this months ago...

As for whether it's a good idea or not, dunno, it probably makes way more sense for some games, and types of games (think f2p), than others.
Considering we most likely die after around 120 years, there is no such thing as "much time" to start with, anyway.
Cool a company trying to do something about scum, how nice
low rated
This is getting ridiculous: games I pay for are MINE, I want to pay the fucking full price for them and I want to retain the freedom to be a fucking asshole all the time I want. No one, NO ONE has a single right to say me how I must behave except myself.

I'm not a child, I'm an adult and can think as such when I want (I don't play multiplayer games and I won't start for the next 150 years...). Those idiotic "publishers" are getting more and more away from my concept and desire of "fun" in video games...

Well, good news then: this does not concern you at all.

Nnexxus: I'm fairly sure this wouldn't even be legal, at least in some countries. It's a form of discrimination.

kodeen: Is 'asshole' a protected class in France? It isn't discrimination against people of a certain race, religion, etc...
If you ever visit Paris, you´ll see that being an asshole is part of their cultural identity. I say Paris because in other parts of the country people are really nice and polite.

Give me your GFWL account name, your steam profile name and your origin account name so I could avoid you like the plague while gaming on those platforms, please.
Well this system will be abused as hell. Bad times for a skilled players are coming. ;)

so you want to play videogames only by yourself, and you want to be an annoying asshole to yourself? That's pretty weird

I'd like to do so, I should have the right to behave like this nonetheless :-P

You have the right to do everything you want to.
This is a "free" world.
Just deal with the consequences of your actions.
Just because you payed for the game doesn't mean you are entitled to be a jerk while playing with other people.
It's a matter of common sense, not "rights".
Valve is trying to enforce common sense for people that don't have any.
