Ahhh, MM series... Countless hours of happy playing, some of my best early-RPG memories were on the World of Xeen...
I already own all the MM and HoMM games up to 7, except the Crusaders, so i might not buy that pack, but i'd be definiteely interested if 8 was available some day on GoG. Even if it's a shitty game or something like that, just for the sake of the collection...
Actually, i have to find my MM 6 limited edition CD and see if the install procedure for the World of Xeen is easy or not on modern systems (i remember doing it with floppy disks back in the days)
That M&M pack is only 450 megs, is something not right? I haven't played the M&M games in a long time, but while I, II, & III are all very small, should IV & V be pretty big? I thought they shipped on CDs, and that's not even counting VI.
Were there talkie/enchanced versions of IV & V to make "World of Xeen" making them much larger?
I can't remember, but I have this feeling something is missing with I-VI coming in at 450 megs. Just doesn't seem right! Someone tell me otherwise!

Zeewolf: I would instabuy Heroes 2 at $5.99, have to think a little before buying it at $9.99. At least the soundtrack and expansion is included

The soundtrack alone deserve this price :P
I love it.

4 and 5 shipped on floppy. I don't know what the cd versions added.
Agree about the renaming of the VI pack. And that Dark Messiah should definitely come here -- I predict it will, but we may have to wait until next year. Hopefully it's not super buggy...maybe Arkane will release another patch as with Arx. :P
Anyway, awesome news. I've never played these games but am looking forward to them. Should be picking up HoMM II & 3 and definitely the VI pack to feed my insatiable appetite for first person RPGs. :)
Now just to get some money...

Miaghstir: Maybe that's what makes the Limited Edition special?
avatar
Mentalepsy: Well, putting aside for the moment that as soon as it goes up on GOG, it's no longer a "limited edition" at all (which, from a collector's point of view, would -really- be what makes it special), we're not getting the cloth map (just a .jpg image) or the MM6 strategy guide, which were also included as part of the limited edition. The LE was just a one-off promotional retail package meant to sell MM6 specifically, and I don't think it makes sense to take the same approach here.
My Duke Nukem 3D disc includes Duke 1 and 2, but if GOG had bundled all three of those games together, it wouldn't make sense to list it in the catalogue as simply "Duke Nukem 3D," even though it would have been accurate to the retail release.
It was only a suggestion to make the catalogue view more informative; I figure that something like "Might & Magic VI: Limited Edition Collection" (if Ubisoft is adamant about naming this package after the LE) would be more likely to garner a click for more information, rather than a "Meh, I already have MM6." You don't need to be snarky.

I understand your position, and was just speculating that perhaps M&M1-5 were included in M&M6 LE retail (speculating, because i honestly have no idea at all, never having had much interest in the M&M games outside Heroes 3, 4, and Dark Messiah), in which case "Limited Edition" would be sufficient branding to figure out that the earlier games are included. As you seem to know your way around them though, I am inclined to agree. It was not my intention to appear snarky.

IV and V did have CD versions with more speech clips, but they still weren't very big. In fact, I have World of Xeen installed right now (from the Might & Magic Trilogy CD), and not counting my save files, it adds up to 32 megabytes - only a fraction of the space available on a CD, but more than enough to justify using a CD rather than floppy disks.
That leaves at least 400 megabytes for MM6. My full installation of MM7 takes up about 550 meg, so 400 is probably about right.

Well, that makes two of us! The M & M series was the first thing I submitted to the "Games I'd Love to see on GOG" but I never thought they'd show up. And now I'm playing HOMM, after having overlooked this series earlier.
So many, many happy hours playing the series (though I missed 1-3, I started at 4 - so it will be fun to play the early games).
Thank you, thank you, thank you, GOG!!!
It will be super great to have these available on my GOG game shelf!

Mentalepsy: I've been trying to play 7 lately, but I haven't really gotten into it. Although I appreciate that the gameplay and character creation / management is somewhat more complex and robust than 6, the extremely heavy combat wears on me, and the game seems to sort of meander aimlessly. Is it worth perservering?

Thiev: Invest in a bow skill. That makes game much easier, especially combined with Fly spell ;) Personally I like MM7 better than 6th and never had any problems with it. Give it a chance.
Anyway I was wondering what to get myself for my birthday and MM pack is a perfect choice *_* Instant buy.

+1 on using bow - a big advantage! Loved the Flying, too. Saved my butt a few times and lots of fun. I've forgotten much, but I also loved the tavern card game you could play (in 6, I think?) -- so much fun to be had. Potentially hundreds of hours of gameplay and that's no exageration.
Simply a great game series. And this GOG edition has to be one of the greatest gaming values of all time.
I can hardly wait to download this incredible package.

That's fine. I took that comment as a "Did you ever think of THAT, huh??" kinda line :p Sorry for misinterpreting.
Obviously this is a great deal... I don't want anyone to overlook it. :p
Oh Yes! :)
I went to sleep just before this was announced and found out about it just as I left work. The MM1-6 deal in particular is fantastic, as I've seen boxed copies retailing for $70AUD over the last two years.
I'll probably grab some of the others even though I have them already, just for the convenience of not messing with CDs anymore.

Yes, they were included in the LE box set for Mandate of Heaven (MM6). I owned all this once in a blue moon, and I am gladly going to pay for this when it released.
Absolutly fantasic news as soon as i saw Hros 2 and settlers 2 it was an instant buy those games are pure classics and now with might & magic on its way i cant be happier.
Settlers 2 + Heroes 1,2,3 + Might & Magic 6 on GOG = nothing is impossible
From now on I'm sure GOG will eventually bring on all my main favorite games ever eventually, all of them. It's unstoppable. I'm pretty sure they can do anything they want.
Oh wait. I was going to rant that GOG should have gone for M&M 4 and 5.. only now I realize this includes all Might & Magics out there. I think I'm gonna faint.
Now I just hope for completing (Ho)MaM series on GOG and if Arcomage arrived here, I'd sacrifice my sister to God, Allah, Satan or whatever the GOG team worships. (Arcomage is the card minigame from MaM 7 and 8, which was later released as a standalone game)
