CDP Days 2011 Spring Conference has just finished and everything is clear now. If you haven't been able to tune in to watch the live stream, don't worry. We've prepared a quick summary of our presentation with a video recap for your convenience. So, let's not wait any longer.

At the very beginning we had to brag a bit about how awesome the service is doing, of course thanks to you - our great users. And then, suddenly, the lights went off, creepy moans started letting out from all over the place while The EnigmaticT tried to discern something in the dark with his flashlight.

Worry not, it was the announcement of Alone in the Dark, that comes with Alone in the Dark 2 and Alone in the Dark 3 as free bonus materials! This great series starts a new wave of Atari games that will be available in the coming weeks! And on 10th of May as the last game from Atari, we'll release The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut. What's even cooler we're going to have a special, time-limited offer that will give you a 50% discount, so the game will cost you only $4.99!

As we're on the subject of The Witcher, we had more cool stuff about its upcoming sequel on GOG.com. Starting on May 10, everyone who pre-order The Witcher 2 on GOG.com will be able to pre-purchase the game and download 90% of the build, so they can play the game on release day! So if you haven't pre-ordered the game yet, you'd better do that before May 16! More details on The Witcher deals can be found here.

Pre-downloading such huge game like The Witcher 2 is some serious business, and you'd need some serious downloader to do that. That's where the GOG.com Spring Site Update comes in! Late April we'll introduce a brand new, improved and slick GOG Downloader which will allow you to download all your GOG games fast and easy. What else? Personal messaging will be now possible for all our users!

But that's not all! At the very end, spotlight was on your favourite French Monk, who had some news regarding new publishers coming to the site. Microsoft, Electronic Arts, LucasArts, Take2 and SquareEnix - one of those publishers is already signed, while two more from the list are almost on board! Which and when is coming? Well, you'll have to wait a bit for that :)

You can watch the video recap of the presentation here. Enjoy!

jm0lson: The American way of writing the date and the European way of writing the date are both correct. Same goes for measuring. I don't think it is very respectful to assume that either one is wrong and to insult them. If you are in Europe go by their standards but if you're in America then respect their standards too. No need for blind hate from people that only know a country/region through news broadcasts.
I think most of these posters are joking about the outrage.
Hmmm...kinda thought this was supposed to be a site for discussing the games we all love, not a "hate America because it's the trendy thing to do" forum. As an American, I am not of the mind that we do things perfectly at all. Somethings we positively suck at (such as choosing a descent President...George W and Barry O both stink ). But do keep in mind, if it were not for hundreds of thousands of "filthy upstart Colonist yanks", you EU chaps would still be goose stepping in front of the swastika. On behalf of my Grandparents generation, "your welcome". That said, I am pumped about the upcoming wave of games!!

Peace!

drezdar: No offense to the GoGoDs, but the American system makes the most sense to me from a readability perspective. You put your smallest set/container first, your second biggest second, and your third biggest last. {Month}/{Day}/{Year}.

You Europeans are just used to seeing tiny units directly in front of you.
Well, considering these are measures of time, it just makes sense to put the one that lasts the shortest first, then 30 of those in the middle and 12 of those at the end.

Your logic fails because there's twelve months in a year, thirty days in a month and... how many years are in a year? huh? huh? :)
Excited about the new downloader!

I wish we used metrics here, but I prefer M/D/Y to D/M/Y.
great presentation GOG and CDProjekt! :D
In fact the "official" european standard-system is much more complicated than the most of you might know.

The proper way to write a date in the EU is not "11. April 2011", "11/04/11" nor "April 11, 2011" ... it's "2011-04-11" - Year, Month, Day.

Haha...

Still makes more sense than putting the day in the middle anyway. But, as said before, there is no "wrong" standard, because standards are just that - standards. Reference values someone made up.

I do think D/M/Y and metrics overall make much more sense, though. Wish everybody would follow them. Brazil uses metrics, but many areas of knowledge still use imperial units.

Microsoft, Electronic Arts, LucasArts, Take2 and SquareEnix

So one of the above is already signed and 25 games being worked on from them? It's obviously EA or Take 2. I don't think any of the others even have 25 classics on the PC...

Personally I'm hoping for EA.

Lucasarts has the library, and is the one I'm rooting for.

the SCUMM adventure games, the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight Series...

X-Wing and Tie Fighter

And while Microsoft and SE might not have made 25 games themselves, much like EA, they own the companies/rights from many other developer and franchise libraries (Square-Enix, for example, owns the rights to the Thief, and Deux Ex series, as well as Gas-Powered Games, the creators of Dungeon Siege and Suppreme Commander)

Ok lets see,

4 Monkey Islands (not counting special editions)
2 Indie jones
Zak
Maniac Mansion
DoTT
Sam & Max
Grim Fandango
Dig
Full Throttle
Loom
4 X-Wing / Tie Figher
4 DF / Jedi Knight
2 Rebel Assault
Shadows of the Empire
Rogue Squadron
Star Fighter
Kotor 1 & 2
and some more late 90s and early 2000s Star Wars titles...

Ok, you're right, they have more than 25. But I doubt they'd make the majority of their catalog available so quickly.
Did they specify that these 25 titles being worked on are from the new big publisher?

If they didn't, many of these may come from the 2 other new publishers, or even from publishers that are here already. If this is the case, then even this number won't serve as a hint.

I think you'll find Take 2 is larger than you give them credit for. Anyone heard of Irrational Games? They just so happen to own the license for the top 2 requested games on the request board, (System Shock series). How about Firaxis? (Alpha centauri?)

Take-2 Happens to own the rights to a lot of old franchises through it's numerous merges/renames under the 2K Labels.

Realistically, I would put my money on EA though, as they're the big one who could dump 25 new titles on here that quick.

fix-cz: Riverside is great! Good music choice GOG monks!
What music was it? I'm very interested and missed the stream today.

What about full Windows 7 support for ALL of the GoG catalogue and better customer support for fixing problems??

One thing I can think of that would be a big help is if you could hire at least one person, who's exclusive job was to browse the forums, make a general list of problems people are having with the different games that they make topics about (and are still unsolved), and they go ahead and present these problems directly to the guys at tech support so they can fix them as soon as possible. Since trying to send requests through normal channels for tech support on issues can either take a really long time and/or not even get answered at all, many people as a result may not even bother (I being one of them) sending in tickets or whatever through tech support to try and see if the problem can be fixed by GoG, oftentimes we just post our problem on the forums and hope there's a solution out there that someone knows of, and it would be probably a really good idea hire a few more helping hands for tech support too.

You're going to have to sooner or later to handle the workload of having so many more games coming to GoG, and with a larger catalogue comes more responsibility, and many more problems needing to be fixed with more games in the catalogue. It'd be a lot better than the current staff simply being overwhelmed with requests, and would probably be good for their sanity too.
