Sachys: If you've played ALL of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games, then I suggest Lost Alpha.
wow...and its a free standalone game. How stable is this beta?

Sanjuro: I'd add Diccuric mod for Gothic.
Lol, I just noticed they have a Gothic 2 nudepatch in their download section. xD

How about a Wolfenstein 3D conversion for DOOM?

Wolfenstein 3D - DOOM TC

quite stable - though theres a new patch due soon that worth waiting for as it fixes a lot of bugs, and also requires a game restart.

doccarnby: I thought the Quake version got hit with a C&D and was never released? The Aliens TC is pretty cool though.

I will also toss in for Orb of Dilaaria. Elwroy's list is pretty good, though from what I've seen Operation: Eisenfaust - Origins goes on way too long and has several bad design decisions that make the last 1/3rd a bit of a slog. I also can't recommend Hacx, and I wasn't impressed with WGRealms 2, but everything else on there is gold.

On their own, Epic2 and Wild Weasel's Nazis! aren't a TC, but put them together and you have yourself a TC for Doom 2. Nazis! was designed to be used with Epic2 (though it can be used with any Doom .wad), and it makes an interestign Wolfenstein style experience.
Alien TC was released for Quake but it did get a legal C&D to take it down after that. The great thing about the Internet though is that once something exists online, it exists online forever regardless of what some lawyer might want to have happen. :) Did a quick search and found this - http://www.quakewiki.net/quake-1/mods/aliens-tc/ I'm not sure if this is the original one I refer to or not but if it isn't I'm sure some website out there has it somewhere. :)
UT 2004

Out of Hell: http://www.moddb.com/mods/out-of-hell

-A very nice and athmospheric horror TC mod. One of the best horror singleplayer mods I've played so far.

Killing Floor: http://www.moddb.com/games/killing-floor

-Multiplayer (sp with bots) horror mod in which you must face waves of monsters

Hollow Moon: http://www.moddb.com/mods/hollow-moon

-b&w and no sound, still an athmospheric experience back then

UT 3

The Haunted: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-haunted

-Much like Killing Floor, 3rd person

I'm following this one for quite some time:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/revenge-of-revan
Not done yet, but it has a nice demo.
Morrowind Overhaul.
Deus Ex has a TC called TheNamelessMod.

It is awesome.
There is a Game Of Thrones TC for Crusader Kings II if anyone is interested...

Also for Crusader Kings 2, are an Elder Scrolls mod and a Witcher mod.

Edit: also the Middle-earth mod.

I love this thread, reminds me of so much I wanted to try a while ago.
Third Age: Total War for Total War Medieval II: Kingdoms, great mod based on the Lord of the Rings story. Technically it's mostly the same Total War, but in Middle-Earth: http://www.moddb.com/mods/third-age-total-war

Also for M2TW: Kingdoms is Rage of Dark Gods mod (former Call of Warhammer). It's unfinished and corrupted by bugs, but fully playable. And anyway it's Warhammer FB! http://www.moddb.com/mods/call-of-warhammer-total-war

New Horizons mod for Pirates of the Caribbean changes gameplay, graphics, adds many new storylines take place in different times and places with different characters and unique gameplay features. Work in progress for many years, and every release adds something new: http://www.moddb.com/mods/new-horizons

Haha, I was about to post about the Rage of Dark Gods mod, good stuff:)

There is also A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones mod, Westeros:Total War
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?721-Westeros-Total-War

In a similar vein there are countless awesome TC mods for the Mount and Blade series, especially Warband.
A few of my favorites are:
A Clash of Kings, ASOIAF mod:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/a-clash-of-kings

The Last Days of the Third Age, a LOTR mod originally for M&B, converted for Warband mostly by a guy going by Swyter
http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-last-days and
http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,199243.0.html because you will probably need some help with installing the fixes, or just wait for the (hopefully) final patch.
Edit:I should mention that this is a true TC in that it actually gives you a Win-Loss scenario; either the Forces of Good (Dwarves, Elves, Men) or the Forces of Evil (Sauron and Co) will win the War of the Ring, and your actions for either side play a hugely significant role.

Warsword Conquest, a Warhammer Fantasy mod, now in beta stage and looking very good.
http://www.moddb.com/mods/warsword-conquest

There are also countless mods for Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, but I am not sure if any of them count as TCs since they don't change the mechanics, just the setting, characters, etc.

Happy gaming:)
