I used to read and love PC Zone, I'd often buy games based on their reviews. Nowadays I don't generally read reviews, and I never really care to read about unreleased games. Why would I want to spoil half of the locations in the game? I also despise all the top 5 list videos swarming video sites by the likes of zoomgames
What's wrong with gamasutra? I find it has numerous well written articles and the comments is opposite level of YouTube.

StingingVelvet: No one takes gaming journalism any more seriously than a decent forum post.
Reading forum posts from users with whom you have developed a rapport surely carries more weight than any gaming journalism. Just like we might take the advice of friends and family over that of a stranger.

Yes to everything else.

Mrstarker: Gaming journalism? What gaming journalism?
This.
I run a facebook review page and me and the other admins originally decided to post news as well, but later realised that most news was just crap rumors. In any case, now we do reviews one week or so after the game is out, so we can actually analyze every single detail of the game.
I think internet was quite a blow to the gaming journalism in general, as it was such a new branch of journalism, it didn't have enough time to develope. Thought, it must be said, I think the state of all journalism has taken a bad turn and most news sites have barely anything worthwile to read.
I used to always trust Pelit magazine (their website: www.pelit.fi). If a game was bad, they didn't seem to be afraid to say it, their articles always felt quite well informed. They even raised many many times to the limelight the dark side of the gaming business, ie. how the magazines are supposed to write favorable reviews and previews, if they want to get early sneak peaks in the future too from the publishers.

Too bad I haven't subscribed to their magazine for many years, mostly when they started going too much also to consoles (which was natural, but I was mostly waiting information on PC games).

Maybe I should check them again. I hope they are as dependable as ever.

So what percentage of those active in video games as a hobby actually gives a damn about gaming journalism? 0.001%?

I've never really cared much about it since I only look at gaming journalist sites for release dates, what's getting worked on, and footage. I do examine a few reviews but I consider them opinions no different than a comment on this site.

The ones who either are or want to be game journalists themselves.
