grinninglich: That is unfortunate. Wow after all these times Bard's Tale is on Steam not on GOG! Wow. Really wow. Why publishers still ignoring GOG? This is the place of Old Games. Not Steam. It is a shame. We can't get new games here. Now we won't be getting old games here too. Fuck.
Well the original's were made by interplay but published and owned by EA so it's more then likely when Brian approached EA about allowing him to re-release the original Wasteland with Wasteland 2 he may have stuck a deal where his company could re-release the original Bard's Tale games as well so there may be some stipulation there where they could only release them at certain digital distribution stores as maybe EA wants to be the ones to release them on GOG, maybe they have been submitted and their going through Q&A and are way down on the release schedule or maybe GOG are trying to get their hands on all the DOS versions since the Steam release seems like a mix of different versions , there are so many different factors who knows.

Actually, from what I have read, they aren't released as games on Steam per se, but the Steam version of the modern Baldur's Gate has them as update. I don't think Valve had any involvement in this.

Hehehe.

Well, GOG should add that 2005 version, it's a better game :P

They already have some kind of agreement with the devs, and it would fit here very well. I don't see why they don't release it.

trebor8273: Bloodygoodgames saying that I'm probably the same myself there are some games that i cant play like the early ultima games and the first might and magic and sadly a few others which i would love to play.

Crosmando: If random encounters with barbarians or goblins EVERY THIRTY SECONDS is your thing, you'll like BT. BT2 is mind-numbingly hard, there's a wilderness and no automap so you have to draw the dungeon maps through via exploration, or just google it to get ones already made before. But 2 is heaps better because of the new features, you can actually do stuff like dumping your entire party at the Inn and then recruiting an entire party of monsters, which is very fun. Recruited NPC's though act on their AI, so you don't control them, and the AI is rather primitive and they will do stupid things in battle.
I loved using the Spectre Snare to snare all the "bosses", like Oscon. Good times! :-)

TVs_Frank: Wait... so do you suddenly get the first 3 in your list, or what if you already own it?
avatar
grviper: They just show up in the main menu of the remake. BTW, Bard's Tale 3 is the Apple II version. Just take in those graphics
Yuck! But at least it's probably bug free. Both the DOS and Amiga versions are buggy, although there is a fan made patch for the DOS version of BT3.

avatar
morciu: is that game really that good? I never played any of them but I remember being kind of interested in the remake when it came out.

timppu: If you are talking about the first three games... I think I have never played a cRPG as burdensome as e.g. Bard's Tale 2 (on Amiga). I think you pretty much have to draw dungeon maps to squared paper, combat was quite hard (even instant deaths IIRC), dungeons were real PITA with all kinds of traps etc... I'm genuinely amazed so many people have fond memories of the games, I just found them unfun already back then. I didn't find them challenging in a good way like e.g. some Wizardry games, mostly just irritating.
I loved BT2 back in the days, but not amymore, due to the endless spawning of random encounters in real time. BT2 was a joy to map if you like some challenging mapping. If you hate mapping, it's definitely not for you.

Thanks for the tip. Bought.

By the way, the "remake" is horrible as a game. But the humour is ok.

You guys do know that the DOS versions are actually inferior, right? These are 80's games.

The Amiga versions of 1 and 2 are clearly superior when it comes to sound and graphics.
But the Amiga version of 3 is inferior due to its bugs.

Horrible? I think it is normal hack'n'slash, not great, not bad. Just normal. But i really liked the humour, it's ace and now i can't stand classic fantasy rpgs (Dragon Age ect) :)
Steam doesn't work on my laptop well, how long is the sale? $2.49 isn't bad so I'll probably bite. Hopefully they will work, I have problems with older games on Steam.
