Is reporting the spam more trouble than a help? i wonder that admin inbox gets overwhelmed with reports.

TheEnigmaticT: As an aside, at some point in the past I seem to have my mod rights to ban spambots removed. That means when I go to bed in a bit, I won't be able to keep deleting the threads. Sorry, lads (and lassies). I'll get that (and hopefully the spam issue) addressed tomorrow.
It's gonna fill up fast.

Nonetheless, thanks for the overtime you've put in on this :)

gameon: Well that wasn't so bad. It says he's offline now. Maybe he got tired, lol.

I don't get the emails, so go ahead. :P
Hmm, it might not be fair to newcomers, but should there be some requirement to post on the forums?

Like, either you have been a member for a certain amount of days, or you have made one purchase from GOG?

It's not a good idea since many newcomers would be alienated and unable to post questions about GOG, buying games, etc. Hmm, it's a tough thing to tackle efficiently.

How about a limit to the number of threads a new member can make per day? But maybe the spammers would just make more accounts.

Well if the Mayans were right, at least the spam bots will be in hell in 24 hours where they belong.

I probably will be too, but meh.
Well this is crappy gift for the holidays, so to lighten the mood in the most unoriginal way.
Enjoy

I don't think that preventing newcomers from posting would be a good idea. What if they have some concerns they need to address before they buy something? As annoying as some of these posts may be (can this run on Steam?), but these are still potential customers and community members.

edit:A limit on how many posts/threads per day on new members would be fair, imo

Seems like they're done for the moment; see you all later, I'm off to bed.

Would a download requirement work? For example, all they need to do is download one of the free games before they can post. I'm not really up on web programming, just wondered if it would work.

cbean85: 'snip
Well, they have already shown they do have the ability to detect attempted downloads of games from their users, so I don't see how this would be too complicated to implement.
SPAM still incoming!!!!

They are spamming their own threads!!

You see that little spam bot? I like his kind best. Reporting them is like pulling weeds. Strangely relaxing.
Looks like its starting again
