Red_Avatar: when I then started playing Golden Sun, it was too much for me.

Cambrey: I never understood why people liked it so much. Pretty game indeed, but extremely boring.

I really liked it. :)
I can't explain why..it just had charm. Of course, the team's previous Shining Force games were much better, particularly 2.
I have a great love for Chrono Trigger.... infact I think it's one of my top games ever.
I've never really been able to get into any other JRPGs though, and I wonder if it's because Chrono Trigger came first... all the big JRPGs do tend to blur into one, and I wonder if i'd have been much less impressed by CT if i'd played it after trying to play a few others.
The thing is, it's really not that hard to innovate in the JRPG space.. it's just that no-one seems to want to (and japanese consumers at least don't seem to want it). Elements from loads of other games and genres could easily be added to JRPGs to make them more interesting and varied.
As I sit on the train, and watch bleary-eyed salarymen play through JRPGs on their cellphones, onehanded and clicking through all the menus, fighting the same enemies again and again, I really find it hard to see the appeal. (unless you're on a train for 2 hours a day and can only use one hand...)
