Dear GOG Users!
First of all, on behalf of the whole GOG team I'd like to thank you very much for your support and all positive comments we have received in so many posts. This really makes us believe that we do the right thing and gives us even more power and motivation to continue our way of bringing classic games with 100% DRM-free policy.
Second thing is, that if you are happy about what we offer here, please help to spread the word about GOG in other places. We do our best to be visible in as many places as we can, but our efforts have their limits, as there are not as many people working on GOG communication across the web as we'd like (actually two guys, Vandal and me).
Please do not treat it as a request, or something that we expect you to do. No... We just say, help us if you really feel (from deep inside) comfortable with it, and if you think that GOG is worth your help.
Once again, thank you everyone!
And have fun!
GOG.com team via Cook :)
EDIT: You can check our "Spread the word" section to get some banners and maybe even buy yourself a GOG t-shirt!

Turrican26: It's where he calls us "bitter", see?
Your "word-reading skills" aren't too discerning if you think he called anyone bitter. Try reading the sentence again.
Luckily, this was the first and last time we had to take down our servers. In practice, this means our future major announcements will still be creative (we'll never give up on that!), but without the slightly bitter part for our users.
4th paragraph,

"And even though the reaction hasn't been 100 percent positive, Rambourg said he'd do the same thing all over again given the chance."

later on,

joystiq.com: "If you could do the relaunch over again, would you do anything differently?"

GOG MD: "...I do not think we would have changed the PR angle we took (however, I would not have minded a lighter monk costume, not to sweat so much!)."

Yea, the way I read it, he means they'll continue to try to be creative (wild and crazy guys, eh?) -- but they'll try to avoid pissing everyone off again.

But, there is a tone to the entire article that seems (to me) to say -- we don't really think we did anything wrong. But maybe he's just trying to save face. Or not. I mean a lot of poeple here still don't think they did anythng wrong. That is a point on which reasonable people can disagree.

And it's even more obviously a point on which unreasonable people can disagree! ;)

And, hey, what's with the "rep attacks" on those of us here who did not like the "stunt" -- that just seems petty to me -- not that I give a shit about rep, but the pettiness, sheesh! -- take me down to minus infinity and I will wear it as a badge of honor!

Damn...hard to walk away from this tragic scene...though I keep trying....must...play...more...games...

Well, yea, that does kinda sound like they still don't get it, but I'm hoping by now they do...I mean come on...after all the uproar here and all over the web...how could they not?

for me, I just can't get past the stupidity followed by the arrogance. I had these guys all wrong. probably my fault for imagining them to be thoughtful, cool gamer types. I get sick of all of the crap messages in my country (USA) where marketers lie constantly to sell to us. and I naively assumed this was an organization different than all that.

as for rep I got a -10! yay!!!

I quickly went up to ten when I first started posting, but it's been taken down to three. It's going both ways, obviously, but that's what the feature's for. :\

Well, I am still hoping they are different. Anyone can make a mistake, and I think they really did think it was a prank that would be seen differently than it was. That's why I feel they must have learned something form this. And, except for this PR stunt, they've done fairly well and, heck, who else is providing good old games DRM free at fair prices? Not many.

I wrote them once and told them that having an on-line repository for my games is an important part of their service to me, but I think they've underestimated the importance of that aspect of their model.

Well, I guess you're right. Personally, I give rep for when I think someone has posted something very insightful or has been very helpful. I rarely, if ever, down-rep someone unless I think they've behaved very badly. That is, I have never even thought of minus repping someone just because they disagreed with me.

But what the heck...I guess people can do what they want...and I guess it does go both ways...just another game, eh?

I think one thing that would be useful is compatibility and running information for every single game, as well as for the catalog. I.e. information for each game on how to run this (old) game in a new OS, separate entry for every OS, and say, being able to search for games that will run on Windows7 or Windows95 (sometimes there is an old machine somewhere and you'd like to find a game that will run on your new computer and maybe the old computer that you donated to your grandmother).

I've been mentioning the site wherever it'd be appropriate to bring it up, and I've been getting a lot of positive reception. Hopefully that's meant some sales for GOG, and some more happy customers.
i would love to play:
''The Blues Brothers'' which was made by defunct company Titus.
i think and am convinced Interplay own Titus games after some conclusion i made.
the first Leisure Suit Larry which are owned by Activision which merged with Sierra long ago.
Duke Nukem 2 from Apogee Software.
and finally Quake which is owned by Id Software, they are now under Bethesda Softwork.
try to get my hand back on them thanks :)please don't release recent game around here as the name promise.
bring Tyrian 2000 freeware so it can be played properly!

Thank you so much for making my past come to life once again. With the releases of the new Windows OS, I thought I'd have to wait for people to either patch my old games or use 3rd party software to play them.

Now I can play my games DRM-free as well as back them up on a DVD and take them anywhere I'd like to play some of the most amazing games of my younger years.

Having this compatibility with older and newer Windows OS systems really makes these games less of a headache to start up.

I have been joyfully spreading the word ever since I've found out about this place. Thank you GOG team!
Me want toonstruc and The Blues Brothers. they are good old games you know?
contract Sony Computer Entertainment to get Twisted Metal 2, i don`t think they would but we never know!
I agree. Ultima really should be on the list.
The Ultima Series was just awesome...I too would like them on the list.
There were some old games which I would like to play again

1) Keef the Thief ( tons of fun and irreverent humor)
2) Loom ( this was a beautiful Lucas Arts Game)
3)Pandora's Box (by Microsoft back in the day - not so much a game but a bunch of cool puzzles.
4) Thief - I think there was a series of 3 of them...and then when Blizzard went under - one was released for the X-Box from the company that bought them out...but the game was horrible compared to the original ones for the PC.

keef the thief, you mean that old game Naughty Dog did?
it was published by Ea so i think Electronic Arts is likely to be the one owning the game.
Pandora's Box, this game was made by tetris creator when he got involved with ms for a short time, am i right?

my feelings about GoG pretty much summed up
