Oh look, that thread again..

@mechgouki

Flash news, even GOG games you buy are not your own, they are and remain the property of their respective authors / publishers, just like any other entertainment purchase you could ever make, boxed or digital.

Also, not sorry to say you are a hypocrite in your claim.. You HAD to create an account here to purchase the Witcher games too, and your purchases / downloads are TIED to your single account on GOG, just.. like.. with.. Steam..

I suggest you consider getting a Nintendo console with no account sign-up to link your purchases to, but whatever digital item you buy is locked to the device, and lost as it fries.. That would help you putting things into perspective, about "retarted" policies.. And complaints!

What? Damn, that sucks. At least my 3DS has an account system.

I think we should just ignore the op. He is like a little school boy ranting why he has to go to school.

My DSi XL and Wii do not :(

Yeah.. That feeling of ownership and entitlement over trivial things do not belong to mature people, let's ignore it. :)

When I use games bought here, I don't get a lame DRM system telling me that I can't play the game I bought with my own money. And I can back them up on a drive.

So yeah, it makes a huge damn difference to me.

Which DRM for which game in particular is giving you issues? Most of devs now days are much more comprehensive and there is almost no such things as limited activations as before, or have been patched or refueled emailing their support, really.
Some of us just don't want to use Steam. A matter of choice. And this option was not given to us. We're being forced to use it.

Cormoran: EA as a whole is retarded. I have all three Mass Effect games, each one is registered via a different EA system. I can't even remember what ME 1 is registered through, ME 2 is only on my Bioware account and ME 3 is only on my Origin client. At no point do any of them interact for registration purposes.

Not to mention I got ME 1 and 2 via steam along with Dead Space 1 and 2, I was unlucky enough to get these when Valve and EA had their falling out, as a result I still can't register my copies of Dead Space 1 and 2. I ended up just cracking the damned things.

Remember that time when you had to be more tech savvy to be able to find and download a crack? I find it amazing how that has now switched to the easier option with the amount of hoops I've had to jump through as a legitimate customer. I'd go on but I'm really just preaching to the choir at this point. :P
I know exactly what you mean.

And have you tried talking to their staff? They have no idea what they're doing.

For me personally, this discussion has run its course. After watching dozens of dozens of Steam discussions on various forums over the past few years, I've basically come to the conclusion that people are not defending Steam because it is any kind of good service, they are defending it because they are scared to death that Steam dying will mean the end of PC gaming. Trying to debate PC gaming with Steam fanatics is like trying to debate diversity of religion with Osama bin Laden.

The funny thing was, that the eventual domination of Steam on the PC DID kill PC gaming for me. The frustration had been brewing several times over the past few years, but it was the farce that was the THQ bundle that tipped the scales and made me sell my gaming PC. And you know what? I don't regret it one bit. I really thought I'd miss the freedom of PC gaming, but after a month and a half of confining myself to the Wii U and PS3, it made me realise that freedom in PC gaming was already long dead. I've bought a couple of PC indie games during the sales to play on my laptop from GOG, but there's been nothing that I've been able to enjoy less on consoles that I would have otherwise played on PC.

Hmmmm, yeah, right, because consoles have no account system or DRM at all *facepalm*. It would be interesting to know what you think about online passes or the fact that every game you download on PSN is tied to your account. On the Wii it's tied to the console itself, which is even worse. Seriously, there is no difference between buying a game on PSN/Wiiware and buying it from Steam.

Where did you take that dumb assumption from? Steam is good as a service, deal with it. You may not agree with how it works, but it did improve PC gaming a bit by making everything easier and more convenient. Autopatching is an example of that. Fuck, old PC gamers like us know for sure how much of a royal pain in the ass it was to search the whole internet for working links to patches. Now there is no need to worry about it anymore, Steam deals with everything automatically. Also, the fact that you can get your games on one single client is a nice feature (you can add non-steam games to Steam).

But yes, Steam did bring more attention into the PC market and was very important for the huge increase of indie games.

Plus one. I don't see any ranting and raving, just someone expressing his opinions in a coherent way.

Sure, there's lots of Steam-bashing posts, so this could have been added elsewhere, but apparently people keep reading all the new ones anyway! :-)

I remember when Steam was new and I bought a game that required it - which I didn't notice until I got home. I was thinking, what the hell is this? I have to have an online account to play it? It's not an online game! I took it back.

Eventually though, I gave in, and used it for a few years. Now I don't, except for free games. Like the op, I think that if I buy a game it should be mine to put on any system I want to, as many times as I want to, and I should be able to make a hard copy. And not have jump through hoops to do it.

Finding a patch to update an old game is like, seriously one of the easiest things to do. Now, if you're having problems with that, I suggest you give up PC gaming for good.

Some of us DON'T want to use Steam.

We don't care if you like it. We don't care if you think there's a problem with that. We just don't want to be forced to use it, and we really couldn't care less if Steam is your religion.

You know what else is easy? Handing over your bank account to your investment manager or your insurance agent.

Some of us choose to want to be able to control our own games, instead of having the rights being depicted by a program, like Steam. You want to worship it, good for you. But the rest of us don't.

I couldn't agree with this more. It is exactly what I am thinking. I want to be in control of the games I bought with my money. Is that too much to ask?

That's why I came to GOG.

Want to know what retarded means? Double DRM (GFWL+Steam etc). Tripple+ incoming

If you purchase a GFWL game through Steam, I believe you have no choice. You will get GFWL on top of your Steam, if I'm not wrong.
Hey - this thread again... O'boy - this really made me change my mind this time.

Oh well, back to Skyrim.

Triple actually happened a while ago. GTA4 = Steam, GFWL, Rockstar Social Club *OR* DVD in drive, GFWL, Rockstar Social Club

Oh no, it is not that easy. Go on, try to find patches for those games from companies that went bankrupt a long time ago. Not to mention that finding a decent server with decent speeds for bigger patches is not an easy a task.

Let me give you a suggestion as well: learn how to read. I didn't say it was impossible to find patches, i said it was a pain in the ass and that Steam made it easier. This is a fact, buddy. Steam made patching easier.

You DON'T have to use Steam. No one is forcing you to use it.

Great. So stop bitching about how evil Steam is for fuck's sake, this is getting old. Just don't buy from it, i'm not forcing anyone to use Steam, neither i am saying that everyone should use Steam. You're either retarded or you can't read properly. If you don't like it, don't use it. It's THAT easy. But bitching on GOG's forum won't do SHIT, it won't make Valve go bankrupt and it won't make Steam lose sales, it'll just make you look like an angry teenager. So fuck off.
