FantasyNightmare: Question with Steam sales.
I know about waiting for a game until either the last day OR until a daily deal, but what about Flash Sales?
avatar
orcishgamer: Flash sales are similar in value to "most" daily deals. There have been exceptions where the Flash or Daily was more discounted, but if you see something go up on Flash, you know the Daily won't be much more discounted if at all.
Thanks! :D
I hate Steam sales. They come so late I've already spent so much money on gifts that I swear I'm not going to buy anything anymore. And yet I can't help myself to see what's in there. HOLY HELL IS THAT THE ENTIRE DEUS EX COLLECTION FOR 10 EUROS? NGGGHHH!!!

nijuu: Btw . Looks like aside from games on sale, a good number of game soundtracks are as well.
Any recommendations ? (aside from Bastion, Awesomenauts,Jamestown ones)
To the Moon.

Is Hitman Absolution this shitty that it's already 50% off?

btw. for me that sale is pretty lame. All the games I'd consider buying have too low discounts to get me interested. Unless they are discounted deeply in daily deals, I'm not interested in anything. Games that are not in daily deals are usually 50% off, so...

Steam sales compared to Amazon deals are nothing interesting, so it seems I'd rather stick with GOG this year.

The most boring part about Steam sales is that they are always the same. Same games with the same discounts on every occasion.

Spec Ops: The Line was instantly 50% off and it was anything but shitty. I suspect Hitman had poor sales, but the reviews didn't make it sound shitty.

Bit linear, but a challenge. Not as good as the previous games in the series. ;)
Hitman is 19.90 in amazon.com. Steam version ;)
I decided to get Mirror's Edge yesterday since it was being sold for peanuts (under 3€). How time flies, I felt I saw a (console) review of it like last year, but it seems to be a 2008/2009 game.

I played maybe two hours of it yesterday. Not thrilled, but I guess it is ok. I was already getting a bit bored, even if there are "thrilling" movie-like sequences of the bad guys shooting on your tails etc.

Nice though that it seems to be fully playable with keyboard and mouse. I had already launched the game when I thought "Wait! Is this one of those console-2-PC conversions which are rumored to have shitty PC controls if you don't use a gamepad? Is my gamepad even connected now?". Luckily, the mouse+kb controls seem quite fine.

Also got Spec Ops: The Line for 5€, but that was from getgogames.com or somesuch. Steam key anyway. Maybe I'll play it sometime.

Maybe that's it for these sales? I can't see myself buying much more, unless some recent games get deep discounts. Hitman Absolution or Doom 3 BFG with mere 50% off? For a DRM version? Pffffft! Get back to me when they dip under 5€ or 3€ (respectively), or when the DRM is removed. Maybe HumbleBundle should arrange another Steam-only sale from some other dying publisher? :)
New Flash Sales
Farming Simulator 2013 -50% $14.99
I Am Alive - 66% $6.11
Airmech DLC - -75%$2.49

Weak........Shockingly....
Yeah, they're really having a slow start this year.

If a farming simulator is what does it for you, go right on ahead and buy it :P

My friends are fully aware that I think Mirror's Edge is one of the worst console games I've played (in my collection). They probably even got sick of my constant bitching, and at some point the whole thing became an inside joke :)

It's true though, I hated everything about the game and had to force myself to finish it. Haven't touched it since. The only good thing I remember about the game was the song "Still Alive" (not to be confused with a certain Portal-themed song with the same title)

You are most defintiely right. I don't know why such games don't sell well.

Spec Ops was discounted 50% off in Poland like in first month after premiere...

It could be a smart marketing move. Having a new game 50% off can draw a lot of extra sales. Spec Ops was pretty much a shitty franchise that got new life by a new unknown developer. It was mostly word of mouth that got this game going.

With digital retail the old retail models don't apply anymore. Especially with Steamworks game, which reduces costs for the developers/publishers even more.

This is true either, but there are still franchices that sell amazingly for full price. Activision never discounts their games significantly, Bethesda gives bigger discounts only on very old titles, and they still are selling well.

I don't mind having such big discounts (they are good for me!), but well.. I don't know if that's a good long-term strategy for a company. If they already discount their game 50% off, the next sale has to be bigger, or nobody is gonna even look at it.

But I never buy games on premiere date, so that's even better for me :P
