not sure about this one looks interesting via the trailers but then the trailers show a min of the film theres another 89-120 mins that might be rubbish. The director i thought started lost out right but then lost got lost by the 3rd series to the point of your mind melting so not sure ifthe director will cope with such a big task as making a film.
Ill wait a week after launch to see how people react to it and if it is good will go see it.

This looks pretty cool. I've never been much for Star Trek, but I'd be interested to see more of this.

He's already made a film before, it was called Mission Impossible 3. And I felt like it turned out pretty well, I don't know if people just forget he directed it, or if people want to forget, but I liked it.

That wasn't a movie, that was a freak of nature.
I do like JJ Abrams, I did enjoy Cloverfield VERY much, I still watch Fringe, and even though I hate Lost, it still somehow manages to draw me in every week.

Bah.
I love Star Trek, but I really wish that they would something new that isn't Trek related. I'm sorry but how many times can you regurgitate the same stuff over and over.
Hollywood, make something new instead of recycling old stuff. Recycling is good for the environment not entertainment...

wow. I was fully expecting this to be terrilble... the trailers look (a) nothing like star trek*, and (b) dumb action.
But those reviews do sound promising.
*i guess if that is a pro or con depends on your views...

two things:
what I heard is that the trek fans are complaining that too many non-fans of the series will like the movie, I don't see this as a bad thing.
I also heard hustler has already got the porn spoof lined up.

I've honestly never understood that attitude of Trek fans. Why shouldn't "non-Trekkies" like it? I would absolutely love it if I could take my wife to this movie and both of us would actually enjoy it (the actual movie, not the porn version).

Fallout 3 is perfect answer for "why trekkies might be angry that non-trekkies like the movie"
Fallout 1 and 2 have a lot of fans. They worship the games, they replay them all the time. They are niche market though.
So suddenly Bethesda comes in and creates a sequel to their beloved game and mass markets it.
and for fans their beloved games are violated, raped by that monstrosity. because whether you think the game is good or not does not matter, it is not proper sequel, it simply is not worthy to carry Fallout's name.
so trekkies are worried that what they love, what they cherish will be ruined so it appeals to bigger market.
And I agree with them. They have right to be worried.

I find it funny that Trekkies (or Fallout fans) would be so protective of their "niche market" anyway. Do you think the creators of Trek (or Fallout) originally set out to make a show (or game) for a niche market? No, they tried to make a broadly appealing and marketable product. Whether they succeeded at that is debatable, but doesn't change the fact that they are continuing to try and make a broadly appealing and marketable product. If they do that and the movie (or game) is still good, then where is the problem?
BTW - Just so we are clear, I am not saying that F3 is a good or bad game, I'm just continuing the comparison. I haven't actually played any of the Fallout games so I can't really speak for their quality.
