I have purchased games here since I joined (see date to left), in excess of 200 games I think, but the last two or three purchases I made for the first time ever included a Foriegn Transaction Fee. And I'm pretty sure I used a credit card that I used here before.

What gives?? Anyone else seeing this??

That's just it though, I got hit with the fee using three different cards. Thus, I guessed something at GoG had changed. It seems unlikely that all three credit card issuers decided to change their policy regarding GOG puchases at the same time, doesn't it??

I suppose it's possible though. But I've used several credit cards to make purchases here over the years, and it's only been the last three purchases that included the fee, and each time I used a different card IIRC, and all three were made within the last month or so.

Don't think it's necessarily GOG.com. My credit card has dinged me a foreign transaction fee on every purchase I've made here since joining.

As far as I know mine never had...now I'll have to go check after that recent one. When'd it hit you? before or after that 5 for 10 thing?

Same here. It's only a couple of cents even on large purchases so I don't really mind.

However, a friend of mine with a card at a different bank here has never gotten a fee of any kind. Most likely your bank has just recently changed its fee policy.

GOG cannot charge such a fee, it has to be your payment provider.

You tried using Paypal?

The issue is with your bank. The one time I used my card instead of PayPal to buy a game, I got hit with an overseas transaction charge. I will never again use my card, I only ever use PayPal. You should do the same. :)

IIRC it was before that, but pretty close to that. Never a single Fee for 4 years and at least a hundred transactions, and now 3 on my last 3 transactions. And like I said, SAME cards I've used before. I still find it hard to imagine that all THREE of my banks decided to add that foriegn transaction fee at the exact same time when all three didn't before.

If I had to bet money, I'd bet SOMETHING has changed here at on GoG's end. It's just not believable to me that all of the credit card issuers would change this at the same time unless it was something on this end that had changed.

I never got that particular fee, but I have had service charges added on by the bank for certain transactions.

When I questioned the bank, they told me it was passed on through PayPal, who in turn told me it was in the way it was billed from the merchant, but when I looked at the charges, I saw some within minutes of each other, from the same merchant, where one had a service charge and another didn't.

I never got to the bottom of it, because I hit the bank with this inconsistency, and they removed all of the service charges for the contested items (which was every one.)

I hope they aren't starting up with this shi* again, as I'm not going to accept it now, any more than I did then.

Edit: The word "they" in the last sentence, should be changed to "the banks," as the pronoun references a vague entity as it stands. I chose to assign reference to the banks, as they do not give money away, and if they were charged, they'd damn sure collect it.

As others have said, GOG doesn't control the fees your banks charge for using the card with foreign companies. Maybe it is possible that they now use some system that lets those banks know more easily that they are a foreign company whereas before they slipped through some crack. It's all possible that your banks changed policy or simply are paying attention better that GOG is a foreign company. My card has always charged a small fee for GOG purchases. Either way if your banks have a foreign transaction fee, there is not much GOG can do about that since they are a foreign company.

Yes, I understand the fee is done by the bank(s). But isn't it possible that GOG has changed something in how they handle credit cards to where now it gets the attention of the banks that they're foriegn and deserving of a fee whereas before however they handled credit card sales the banks didn't notice that they were foriegn??

For example, suppose before they had a bank account that accepted straight dollars into the account whereas now they have an account that requires all dollar sales be converted to Euro's before being credited to their account. Isn't something like that possible as an explanation too? Or perhaps their account that the credit card sales goes into was an American bank before and now it's a European one that makes it easy for banks to realize it's a foriegn transaction?
