for Don't Starve.

I mean, I read a lot about it, I know this was a "survival" game, but I've read also that it contains an adventure mode.

Good for me, I think, so I gave it a try.

I hate sandbox, infinite games, so I only took it for the campaign, and because I loved the art for the game.

So I begin the game, I wasted two hours finding the way to access adventure mode, finally I found the gate!

Hurray!

I enter, a little cutscene occurs...and then nothing! I have no clue on what to do at all, all seems exactly the same from the sandbox game, except that here there is snow.

So I took a look on Google, and I discovered that to pass each stage you must find five items. Good.

I wasted one hour exploring the map, then death came. Restart from the beginning :l

I tried again, and I found that you can use a radar to find an item...okay.

So i use this, I reach the point where the signal is stronger...and nothing at all. Then a tentacle killed me.

I mean, I love hard games, I love survival one too, BUT:

-Please give me a plot. This adventure mode is boring like hell, and it's not a campaign with a story, Only a "goal oriented" chunk of the sandbox game.

-Why I can't fine the item? I'm here, I'm running like a crazy around the location, I killed the enemies here, but nothing.

I uninstalled the game, so the first title I bought since Dark Souls 2 was a waste of money (for me, I'm not accusing the game).
An odd game, it gets good reviews, but when you read them, you wonder why it got a high score at the end, cos it looks like a frustrating pos to me, My kids wanted it but after reading a few reviews, I knew they would not like the frustrating aspect of losing progress like that.
It's always good to check out gameplay videos before buying a game. That's why I love Youtube's Let's Players: I get to see the full game through them without risking money. If I like what I'm seeing (often just a few minutes is enough in order to decide), then I buy the game.

Oh well, at least the game was "technically" free for you if you bought it with credit (assuming you got it by selling cards) :)

I'll be very surprised if you've read anywhere that the game involves a story. It doesn't, and I've never seen anybody claim that it does.

Don't Starve is definitely not for everyone. The learning curve is high, and not too many things are actually explained in-game. Personally I like it, and sink a couple of hours into it every once in a while. Unless you are hell-bent on figuring everything out for yourself, watching videos of other people playing it can be a tremendous help, and given the procedurally generated nature of the game, doesn't really spoil anything.
Actually not all your efforts are wasted when you die. You inventions will carry on the next "life".

It's a roughlike game. You either win or die (a lot), but hopefully learn something to do it better the next time.

We are sorry if you did waste yor money, but you could always check the reviews first, before buying something. (This is a frustrating game, but many people find it rewarding.)
Just spoke to my son (11), apparently he got it on a Humble Bundle and he says its not that hard at all....*shrugs*...
I was considering buying Don't Starve with trading card money too but then i remembered that i played it at a friend a while ago...I didn't really enjoy it, this game is indeed not for everyone no matter how many good reviews it got.
A bit too confusing and unforgiving for my taste so i'll rather spend my "hard earned" card money for a better game. :D

A meagre amount of research would tell you this was not the game for you.
Dude, you would furiously hate Notrium (best freeware game from the developer of Driftmoon, I highly recommend it).
You have to be in a special mood for those games and some never are.

+1 for watching Youtube Let's Plays before buying. It's more honest than any game trailer especcially now that many game trailers don't have in-game footage at all.
Of course I checked some reviews and video, but It hought that even sandbox mode has an "end".
The video were for sandbox mode, not adventure one, so I thought they don't want spoiler the "story".

Sigh.

If I've learned one thing from hanging around my nephew, also 11, it's that we older folks are worthless, incompetent, and stupid. :P I throw games and puzzles at this kid that killed me at his age and he flies through them.

Chess. Then chess on steroids(complex turn based strategy). Then steroids on chess(martial arts, connecting the physical to the mental). Those games are timeless :)

Yeah, its kinda come full circle for me now, I had to programme my dad's VCR back in the day, I guess its soon going to be time to pass on the baton and get my kids to do the techie stuff for me from now on :)

So what you're essentially saying is that your 11 year old nephew is smarter then the average TinyE. :P
Don't Starve is unique, but pretty much all the sources I've seen on it contantly stated that it's primarily a sandbox exploration game. That being said, it's a very good and unique sandbox exploration game
