I bet growing up had something to do with it because as I grew up I stopped liking them. Maybe that's why I put it that way? Could be!

You've taken offense before to my mentions of growing up and no longer certain genres. You come across as very defensive.
Sword of Vermillion was perhaps my first "big-boy" RPG (I had played Zelda 1 and 2 before it). I played it day and night and beat it a few times. I tried picking it up a few years back and I was surprised at how difficult it still is.

My brother played all of the Shining Forces and loved them all.

I tried the Phantasy Star 1 and 2 games and hated them. Hearing that 4 is good gives me hope that there may be a good game in there.

Did you figure out the saves fiasco?

You may have a game-built-in save and you may have an emulator-running Save State (that's how the collection was on my XBOX 360). In that case, you may have pulled up the wrong save. You may be trying to load the game save instead of the state save, or vice versa.

And, as always, don't install them to a protected folder (Documents, Programs, Windows).
Anyone have any idea how often this bundle goes on sale? (whether at dotemu or gamersgate, etc)

This is a fantastic pack of games, but even the sale price is too steep in my opinion. I saw a couple mentioned this pack and the rest of the Genesis game packs going on sale for much cheaper... just wondering if that's something that happens happens often.

The Sega Genesis is one of the few consoles I totally missed growing up, and I've still only seen a couple games from the system. I adore what I've seen though.

I'm not sure about Dotemu (not the best site about discounts anyway), but I happened upon a 75% Sega sale on GamersGate, both on February and on March, so I would hazard a guess of about mid-April?

Cool, thanks. I'll keep an eye out :)

The big bundle I saw at DotEmu was pretty cheap once, at the same time this RPG bundle was on sale when I got it, but it didn't include all of the RPG titles IIRC. It had most of them, but IIRC one or two or maybe even three weren't included. That's why I chose this bundle, and because the action/fighting games just don't interest me. I don't know why, they just never have.

While I must have purchased hundreds, probably in the thousands, of games for the Intellivision whey my son was very young, and the NES, SNES, N64, PS2 and PS3, I just never really got into anything other than the "rpg like" titles. I see some on here say Zelda isn't an rpg, but that one I loved, and it is a little like RPG in how the character builds up life and abilities. My son would play anything, and I would try sometimes, but just couldn't.

Anyway, I'll keep an eye to see if that big bundle comes on sale again, plus I'll see if I can find it right now and give you a link to show which games are included. I want to say it was 50 games, but maybe it was 30, I dunno, my memory sucks. Be back in a few.

Nice, thank you. Looking through screenshots on DotEmu, I can tell I missed some pretty fascinating games. I recall having one friend as a kid that had Sega consoles. All the other kids (myself included) seemed to just have the Atari and Nintendo stuff for some reason.

Well, I guess my memory was wrong again, because I don't see any bundle at DotEmu with over 10, so my memory is worse than I thought. I could've sworn I saw one when they were on sale that included 50. (or 30)

Guess Gamersgate is the best one for the really big bundle then.

Oddly enough, it isn't. The Genesis/MegaDrive Gold Collection has a pretty steep price (70€!) and even then, it doesn't offer all the games. Your best bet with GamersGate is to buy all the 5 Genesis/Mega Drive Collection Volumes separately. This will net you 50 games for the price of 37.5€, or in a case of a 75% sale, 9.3€, with only the Sonic games missing from the package.

Wow, good info, that is the way to go then for those that want the big bundle.

Awesome info, thanks guys. I feel like a moron, but all I can find on GamersGate is the big expensive collection. I don't see the separate smaller packs like I did on DotEmu. Maybe I'm too low on coffee and being stupid with my searches?

Search for something like this.

Ah! Yep, I was being careless with my searches. When I just searched "sega" or "genesis," it didn't give me much in the way of good results. I should be asleep. My brain checked out a little while back, I think. :)
(edited to say thanks again! My backlog is going to weep, but I'm gonna have to pick these up soon!)

I remember Shining Force to be quite a cool game

Well he didn't really say that growing up has to do with disliking JRPGs. He just said that he used to like JRPGs when he was younger, and now he doesn't. It seems to me like his tastes in games simply have changed.
