Namur: DirectX 9 reinstall needed maybe ?
Is a good point, as I have seen many problems that this solved, in real life.

Might be a good idea to get the link to directx9 stickied.

Sure. Click link below, and follow instructions. Not sure if it validates your Windows as legit, or not, so use your own discretion given your circumstance,

gameon: Download this, and install it:

If it asks if you want to overwrite what is already there, click yes and continue until it says it has installed.
Gave all that a try and it didn't seem to help at all. Although I never got any messages about overwriting anything.
I hate Vista... Nothing ever works on it.
Yep. Service packs are all up to date.

gameon: It usually just installs just like any other program. If its not a direct x problem, its got to be something vista related.

Have you downloaded the vista service packs?
it is most likely not a direct x problem nor vista related. most likely his graphic card not being able to handle the 3d in one way or the other (be it with drivers, using his onboard card or something else).

Maybe your laptop have two graphic cards? One is Intel, another one is GeForce. Some game set to Intel HD GPU by default. Need to change it manually. But i'm not sure how to change it, maybe via Nvidia Control Panel. I never use laptop for gaming.
Have you tried disabling the on-board card?
