This is amusing coming from the king of smug "the majority disagrees with me because they are stupid and uninformed" posts.

My original post was a rant about broad censoring of a word with many meanings by coining it the "r-word." I clarified that later because it might seem at first that I was supporting Coulter, which I was not. I said multiple times that I do not agree with calling people retards.

You can either believe me or use your massive smug power to assume I'm an asshole covering his tracks with no evidence. That's your call to make.

As for the core issue of it being a word no one should ever use again because one aspect of it is offensive to a small group of people I will call that opinion stupid until the day I die. As I just said to the above poster, saying a term like flame-retardant is a slur is fucking ridiculous. Saying "that car is retarded" because it has style or mechanical flaws which fuck up the whole design is not a fucking slur either.

If you want to debate the above go back in time and read much better and well-presented posts from people who disagreed with me in a much less smug and superior way, and my responses to them.

I'm clearly not going to read 7 pages of posts, but I just wanted to say that you can't find reason in words, just like you can't find reason in love.

People have used and will always use words to express different things from what they originally meant. You may be irritated by the way people use 'decimate', 'awesome', or 'retard', but that will all be for naught, they will continue doing it no matter what, and the meaning will change once more in a couple of years or a couple of centuries.

Trying to argue that people aren't using a word as it is written in a dictionary is like arguing which came first, the egg or the chicken: pointless. Things evolve, nothing is static, especially not words' meanings, pronunciations, etc.
