Puts the “fun” into “funtasy adventure game”!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_book_of_unwritten_tales]The Book of Unwritten Tales, a wonderful and incredibly well-written point-and-click adventure game that spoofs almost every existing fantasy cliche, is now available on GOG.com 10% off for limited time. That’s only $17.99 until Tuesday, August 7 at 09:00 AM GMT.

The creators of The Book of Unwritten Tales are that masters of one very difficult but highly-valued genre of humor: parody. The game light-heartedly spoofs countless fantasy universes, drawing from books, movies, and games (although it focuses most of its punches on a certain popular MMORPG;)). Some of the characters are well aware of their predicament of being a part of a computer game, so expect the fourth wall to be shattered into small pieces before you reach the ending credits.

In The Book of Unwritten Tales you control the cast of unlikely (but very much likeable!) heroes using a classic point-and-click interface. They visit countless puzzle-packed locations--each beautifully presented in lush 3D graphics--that combine into a large and detailed gameworld. The adventure consists of five lengthy chapters interpersed with many top-notch cinematics, so the game guarantees hours of story-driven fun that will leave you craving for more.

The Book of Unwritten Tales--a splendid adventure with great voice-acting and heaps of witty punchlines will have you laughing out loud like a gleeful goblin for only $17.99 for the next 7 days.

G-Doc: No, they are not, I'm afraid. As of now we can offer you the English version only. The mention of the German version was a mistake, that we have corrected--not as promptly as we have hoped, I suppose.
any explanation for that? there are now quite a few German-made games on GOG that are missing German language, which is odd since the same games are multilingual on other sites (Steam, GamersGate or even Dot Emu).

i'm just gonna have to say it: i'm not purchasing a German-produced game without its original language.

i understand this isn't an issue for non-German speakers, but as a German speaker i'd like to enjoy the games in their original language.
Great addition to GOG's library and the english voice acting seems top notch as well, judging by the review G-Doc pointed out earlier.

I have a question though, not that it matters to me personally, but I wonder every time the subject comes up once more. Do the additional languages come with an added cost for GOG? I understand that they target english speaking customers and english is a prerequisite but when the extra language is sold elsewhere what is the difficulty of suppling it here as well?
Again, it's not a complain, I'm actually wondering.

Bloodygoodgames: ETA: Sorry, it's $29.99 on GamersGate so, yes, GOG is cheaper. But......with the sales GG ends up with, it will probably still be cheaper there eventually. And, it's been up on their site for months, so a very late entry for GOG.

timppu: Then again, the GamersGate release has "Other DRM", whatever that means.

Also I'm sure the GOG DRM-free version will also get its 50% or 60% discount at some point, it isn't like I'm in a hurry getting this (or any other) game anyway, due to the existing backlog.
Other DRM is usually just a key. No biggie. Half of my games on GG have them, but they're just one-time installs.

I'm not in a hurry either but.....if it does come up cheaper on GG, unfortunately, that's where i'll be buying it :)

Rincewind81: *snip*
Can someone clarify, that the german voices are included?

thanks for the statement. The lack of multilanguage support, even if english is not the original languageand the original language is availably everywhere else, is stllla disadvantage and, like Fred_DM, i'm not purchasing this games here....

Dito, I really appreciate these nice releases on gog.com, but as long as they do not have native language support I simply refuse to buy them here and rather get them from a different place.

I love this site and the work of the gog.com team and I do have great hopes that they'll add more multilingual-options for games here in the future (released ones and those yet to come).
surprisingly good gameplay, this game grabbed me from the very beginning, even though I don't like this graphical style... recommended!
Great game. Thanks for more adventure.
Looks nice but right now I'm kind of overburdened with games as it is. I'll keep an eye on it, though. :-)
20$ for 2009 adventure game? Really? Anyway: Not my cup of tea.
Give us adventures!!!
Guess at some point I'll pick it - but for now I'll stick to oldies.
I'll pick it up sometime, to the wishlist it goes.
Heard good things...so wishlisted; also, GOG releasing before Steam? :o
Got many praises here in germany, but that's maybe it's a german developed game ;-) Like already said I alsow would highly appreciate german language support, especially the game is about story-telling.

I'm neither a german or english speaker but I share your point of view: I swear only by original versions hopefully with subs in my language or at least in english), and they are too few in the videogame industry, sometimes the game even forces itself in an unwanted version.
