Puts the “fun” into “funtasy adventure game”!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_book_of_unwritten_tales]The Book of Unwritten Tales, a wonderful and incredibly well-written point-and-click adventure game that spoofs almost every existing fantasy cliche, is now available on GOG.com 10% off for limited time. That’s only $17.99 until Tuesday, August 7 at 09:00 AM GMT.

The creators of The Book of Unwritten Tales are that masters of one very difficult but highly-valued genre of humor: parody. The game light-heartedly spoofs countless fantasy universes, drawing from books, movies, and games (although it focuses most of its punches on a certain popular MMORPG;)). Some of the characters are well aware of their predicament of being a part of a computer game, so expect the fourth wall to be shattered into small pieces before you reach the ending credits.

In The Book of Unwritten Tales you control the cast of unlikely (but very much likeable!) heroes using a classic point-and-click interface. They visit countless puzzle-packed locations--each beautifully presented in lush 3D graphics--that combine into a large and detailed gameworld. The adventure consists of five lengthy chapters interpersed with many top-notch cinematics, so the game guarantees hours of story-driven fun that will leave you craving for more.

The Book of Unwritten Tales--a splendid adventure with great voice-acting and heaps of witty punchlines will have you laughing out loud like a gleeful goblin for only $17.99 for the next 7 days.

kalirion: I thought it was the money, but steam has the same base price ($19.99) and offers both German and English.... Unless that was the compromise to keep it DRM Free?

Anamon: It would seem a weird concession though, two such unrelated features. But maybe it has to do with GOG.com not knowing regional restrictions. There might be some licensing issue preventing the German version from being sold abroad? So far I don't think anyone has confirmed that you can also get the German version of the game with, say, a US Steam account. Perhaps there's simly some part of the world that the German version may not be sold to, clashing with GOG's "one world" policy.

The front page says: "Getting worldwide rights to our games does take a lot of extra effort on our part." – maybe this is one example for that?
The US store page for the game also advertises both the English and the German language so regional restrictions should not be the problem.
I can understand german fans not liking the fact they don't have the game they love in the original, their own language, however the english voice cast is very great when I played through the game. Also it's 99% bug free. I once triggered a bug on purpose just to see what would happen in a certain situation... so yeah that's my fault. =p
Anyone else thinking indie releases get in the way of classic releases on GOG? I love many indie games but... well, it just feels like they get in the way. I know GOG has been releasing much more games than ever before now and so I'm feeling it wrong but, it does feel like it.
@RafaelLopez While I'm a little concerned that indie games might start to overshadow classic games, if I think rationally about it I know that they just increase gog's appeal to companies wary about the store. Newer games attract a different set of customers, which will help convince these publishers that their old games can flourish on the drm free gog, which gog (Since it's in their name) knows are the reason they can keep a strong loyal base and continue to flourish even with the Steam juggernaut selling games at low low prices.

But we'll just have to wait and see. If the classics stop being released, I'll light my torch and sharpen my pitchfork with you.

I'm not concerned because they're still releasing at least 1 or 2 old games a week. And yes, I consider Mysterious Island and Warrior Within to be old, though its arguable how classic.

Honestly, before the new/indie games, when has GOG ever released 4 games a week outside of "new publisher" scenarios?

I am sure the decision to include newer and Indie games was made because the number of classics that can still be licensed would have gone down at some point anyway. The new games probably don't come at the expense of the older ones, but to allow GOG.com to regularly add something to the store even when there's fewer older games they can get. But so far the releases of old games have not declined, which is great.

With about 3-4 games a week it's not that big a deal to skip the newer games one is not interested in, and after all GOG.com still gives the same promotion and placement to all new titles. Plus, I think the newer and Indie titles that GOG.com has added so far are very well in keeping with the "Good Old Games" theme. They didn't add 500 shoot 'em-ups or RPG Maker titles, but we got classic point & click adventures or things like Legend of Grimrock. The kind of games I'm sure many people were here for even before newer games were added.

Didn't know GOG had this game. It was unexpected as it is relatively new. Just bought it from Amazon, but would have preferred buying it here. Cheaper too! I'm going to have to keep an eye on you now GOG! -- Also, going to have to keep an eye on the specs. Have real old machine and didn't have to worry games from GOG wouldn't play before.

It's comments like these that give GOG reason to keep releasing these newer titles. :-) I'm not excited about it, but I can't deny that others are interested in them, and they certainly have the right to be.

I am well aware that they're releasing classics at a decent pace, it's just that coming looking for a classic every week, I get disappointed when I see these indies in addition, sometimes instead.

And here's me ranting about indie games, something I always promoted.

I would really like to know what you mean by "getting in the way". How is more choice a bad thing?
I'm not saying I'm for or against GOG releasing newer titles. However, I like what GOG provides - DRM free titles. I definitely don't want them to stop releasing old/classic titles. There are quite a few more I'm still hoping they'll get -- Discworld Noir to mention one.

If GOG wants to build it's business by releasing newer titles and that helps it stay in business I'm all for it.. I want GOG around forever!

Edit: I guess I am saying I'm for it.

GOG has just added German language to "The Book of Unwritten Tales". The prequel "The Critter Chronicles" is also released with German and English language.
