In other words: too damn fast!

Terminal Velocity, a fast-paced interplanetary fighter flight sim straight from the depths of 1990s, is now available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

In a future not that distant, a devastating conflict shatters the terran defences. The humankind manages to survive and their last hope of defeating the invaders lies in the newly constructed fighter craft: the TV-202. This incredible machine has the ability to completely ignore gravity, fly in any possible direction with limitless maneuverability, and to deliver continuous thrust. Not to mention its supreme firepower. The fate of our race lies in the hands of the only pilot brave enough to fly that craft: you.

Terminal Velocity from 3D Realms is often compared to the Descent series, as it features the same concept of free-roaming battle-zones. 3D Realms made sure, however, that their game had an unique feeling to it. With creative landscapes, challenging enemies, hardcore tunnel-stages, and many unique worlds to visit, Terminal Velocity remains one of the most captivating futuristic fighter sims of all times.

If you think you can handle piloting at extreme speeds, while avoiding moving obstacles, and shooting bandits all around the clock--join the air-force! Or, take the safer path and get Terminal Velocity, for only $5.99!
I loved the demo of this game that came with my Duke Nukem 3D disc. I'll definitely be getting this.
Got this game on the BEST MAGAZINE ADD-IN CD EVER

Had some fun with TV, but it gets old pretty fast.

Wow, that's pretty awesome. I've never heard Need For Speed referred to as The Need For Speed before, it sounds so much more formal.

Not as formal as "Road & Track Presents: The Need for Speed" :)

Too bad they never came out with a "Classic Games CollectioN: Volume 2".

And now they don't even provide CD/DVD add-ins anymore. Must suck for those in the boonies who have bad internets.

Oh, heh, I glazed over that and thought Road & Track Presents was something different. x]
Great release.
Is this game playable generally only using keyboard/mouse? I have a joystick but I previously didn't find it very agreeable to Wing Commander on dosbox
Ooh. I never saw Terminal Velocity in stores. I later got Fury^3, and even *that* required me to buy a joystick it was bundled with. TV demo was amazing and I loved Fury^3 even when both ran slow like hell on the 486DX-33. It got a lot more awesome when I got my Pentium 166MHz. =)

...hmm, I wonder if Fury^3 runs on Windows 7, I think I have the CD somewhere here... =)

Edit: Oh hoh ho! I found my Fury^3 CD and it both installs and runs in Windows 7 beautifully. 55 MB hard drive requirement is obscene. Nobody has that much hard drive space. I had to go with the "compact" 10 MB install. =)

Glad to hear my work is still installing! :-)

I *wish* our team had been told about Terminal Velocity, I had no idea there was a prequel until after we shipped! There were a lot of things I would have liked to have seen done better, but we were rushing it out the door as a 3D graphics card demo -- and those were amazing that year.

There is a shareware version - the entire first episode for free - which I'm sure you can download from a bunch of places. You gotta be able to set it up in DOSBox yourself though.
From the announcement, it's almost as if they played a completely different version of Descent and Terminal Velocity than I did.

Those two games had basically nothing in common. TV was awesome because it was primarily out in the open with segments under ground. And where you could go above and below the clouds. Descent was a great game, but it was much tighter confined and as such you didn't get into the same types of dog fights.

It's like those folks that insist upon confusing Arena FPS games with Corridor shooters. They just aren't the same.
Such a classic game, it should be bundled with every launch copy of Windows 8 right? *wink wink*

Man, I loved this game, played more than Descent, but now looking at the screenshots you can barely see what's through these pixels. :p

I would compare Descent to Radix... and I wouldn't mind seeing Radix on here, Epic...
Got two positive magazine reviews off of the shareware CD version of TV as follows:

"Terminal Velocity is a symphony of titillating action and g-force slurping excitement..." - Strategy Plus

"The 3D environments are simply breathtaking... the graphics engine creates worlds that are like nothing seen before in computer games." - Computer Player

Hey GOG will you put these positive reviews in the Terminal Velocity page?

That's true, but it still plays as well as ever, just make sure to play with a joystick that doesn't twist if possible. But, it's still a blast after all these years.

I'll be buying a copy here at some point, but I don't have a joystick and I already own a copy.
