Post-nuclear gangland.

Redline, an insane classic post-apocalyptic action game combining first-person shooter and off-road driving game is available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

It's 2066 and the world is a different place. While the privileged insiders live in fertile domed cities, the rest of us fight for survival in the wastelands. Rival gangs battle for supremacy, turf control and valuable resources. In order for a young man to succeed he must make the right choices about his future. That's why you want to join the Company. It's on you, rookie. We think you've got the skills, but do you have the guts to go up against the worst maniacs from the Lepers, the Templars, and the Red Sixers gangs? We'll give you a piece, a rig, and let you try to prove yourself. No guarantees, but if you pull this off you might have what it takes to be one of us…

Redline challenges you to take on 12 insane missions in your quest to become gang warlord. Prove your skills in the arenas, eliminate rival gang members, and destroy all who oppose you. It features both vehicular and on-foot combat--jump in and out of heavily armed cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles, and turrets anytime during gameplay. Blast rival gangs with over 40 unique weapons, car jack your opponents' ride or climb up to a stationary cannon to blow away unsuspecting punks. On GOG.com, the game comes with a full soundtrack in both high-quality MP3 and FLAC format.

The future might look grim and brutal, but there's no reason not to have fun while besting its many dangers in Redline, for only $5.99 on GOG.com.

mkell_226: I can't understand how I missed hearing about this back in the day, especially since the Game Revolution review was such a passionate love letter! http://www.gamerevolution.com/review/redline
From the review: "In the car, you have up to 3 forward weapons, two side weapons, and 3 rear weapons. " - Wait, What?!? I know nothing about this game but I might need to stick it on the wishlist now.

I read a preview about this game years ago but never saw any ads or reviews for it. Looks good but I wonder why It was ignored.
I picked this one up in the bargain bin years ago, I'd never even heard of it - and this is the first time I've seen anything written about it anywhere.

Roughly Quake-era graphics, but with far more variety of colour than Quake and a good (if unapologetic) sense of humour.
Something about this game just works - it's easy to pick up, but with far more options allowed by the on-foot and vehicular mix.

Also, at some point I wound up dodging rockets in an explosive-filled van and diving out at the last moment before it plunged into the top of an active volcano, causing an eruption and destroying the entire level I'd just been playing.
Completely over the top with some great creative thinking, even if the graphics are dated.

I can't actually post a review, because I haven't bought it, but that's because I still have the original disk.

I may be wrong, but it looks like this game is based on the Quake 2 engine (going by screenshots only). For me it's the most recognisable game engine in gaming history :)

Apparently it came out in 1999, so that's entirely possible.
I normally wait for a game to go on sale before I buy it, but I made an exception for Redline. I picked it up ages ago and only got play it a few glorious times. It seemed to be really fussy with my system configurations, so after a Windows Update or two, the thing would just crash whenever I tried to load the first level.

Considering the publisher, I never expected it to show up on GOG. Once I saw it had, I bought it immediately. So thrilled that I finally get to check it out again.
