They say the dead know no pain. Things are about to change!

Meet Raziel: a vampire-turned-wraith, who will show you how to have a soul-devouringly good time for just $5.99 on GOG.com

Soul Reaver is technically the second installment in Legacy of Kain series, but practically it’s a beginning of a new adventure. What is important is that the game brought the franchise into 3D and introduced a completely new character while maintaining the uniquely dark and seductive atmosphere. The player controls Raziel, once one of six powerful lieutenants of Kain who was later broken and killed by his former master. Reanimated in the Spectral Realm as a wraith by The Elder God, Raziel serves as the deity's "angel of death" and will not stop unless his five undead vampiric brothers--and Kain himself!--are destroyed.

The gameplay is flawless, fights are violent and gory, and the game requires you to shift in real-time between the material and spectral planes to solve puzzles and defeat monsters. Raziel, the series’ new anti-hero is a character who feels real despite his wraithlike nature. His striking visual appearance (a wrap hiding his jawless face, radiant pupilless eyes, tattered wings, and claws and feet), tragic nature, personality change throughout the game, and his blue symbiotic blade, made him one of the most recognizable characters in gaming history.

Once you get ahold of the Soul Reaver sword, you will never want to stop hacking and slashing, especially for just $5.99 on GOG.com.
Well, I can't configure a gamepad for Soul Reaver full stop, game just won't recognize I have one plugged in.
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get the Soul Reaver games working on my logitech gamepad? It'll partly work, like sometimes scroll down when i press down. I will not use the keyboard for these games.

In the Options screen, there should be an entry called "Control Keyboard". If you have a gamepad plugged in, you should be able to change that to "Control Gamepad" with the arrow keys/d-pad. It worked for me with my old Gravis Destroyer Tilt (working with WINE 1.3.37 in Wineskin, on OS X 10.6.8 no less).

It might very well be your hardware; Freespace 2's joystick controls performed horribly for me under FS2_Open; then I replaced my aging original Saitek Cyborg 3D with a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and the controls felt perfect.
It's not old (logitech f510) and it's worked on other games like Split Second so I dunno what the deal is. le sigh

The f510 has a switch to choose between XInput and DirectInput. I think Soul Reaver won't work correctly if the gamepad is set to XInput (aka xbox controller), so switch it to DirectInput and use the Logitech Profiler to set it up correctly.
On the other hand, I still haven't got any of the LoK games, so it is possible this suggestion won't work.
Yea, I'm currently stuck at the direct input and profile stage as Raziel keeps going in circles even though I have the Mode button pressed. Also, while in the menus once i press down on the D pad it goes back up after the button is released. Do i have something in the profile set wrong?

Doesn't the mode button switch the d-pad with the left analog stick? The input method is selected by a small (mechanical) switch on the bottom of the gamepad (last image here.
Also, does logitech profiler properly identify the gamepad, or does it complain that no pad is connected?
Logitech profiler detects the gamepad and i don't switch it to Xinput. The same problem exists where i can control his movements with the d pad to but he still runs in circles. All the buttons work, he just runs in circles. Also, when i click the game icon within the profiler it does nothing, but it launched with SR2 and Defiance. I know I selected the right file so it should launch.

I'm trying to set the game up for my girlfriend as she's just bought it, and I'm having EXACTLY the same problems as you; he keeps running in circles, and on the menus the d-pad is doing the same as you've described. I've tried it both with an old Microsoft Sidewinder pad and also a Nintendo Wii pad with a USB adapter, and neither works properly. Using gamepad mode does nothing, and using keyboard mode with Joy2Key gets the buttons working but the directional input still has him running in circles. I've tried it with both the d-pad and the analog stick, and pressing the pad or the stick DOES register changes in direction, but when I stop pressing the pad or the stick he goes back to running in circles again. I know that the issue isn't with Joy2Key as I've tried it with some other games, so I don't know what the problem is; it should just take the pad/stick input as keyboard presses, but it isn't for some reason. Does anyone have any ideas?
I have the same exact problem as many where when you press down it will automatically go back up. All the other buttons on my controller work just fine but Raziel keeps running in circles and no way to stop him :(

I have windows 7 64-bit

This is the remote I currently fighting with:

I've looked everywhere and tried Xpadder 5.3 and setting it up but to no avail. It simply doesn't recognize the configuration when I start the game and back to the start...

I'm a huge fan of the soul reaver series and really looking for someone to kindly walk me through this to get my controller up and running. I'm not a computer genius, so baby steps would be greatly appreciated :)

Also, if I hit a brick wall... which controller SPECIFICALLY for these 3 games would be perfect for?

Thanks a lot!

For older Windows games, older DirectInput game controllers usually give the best results. I think your XBox360 controller is specifically a X-Input device, which may complicate matters.

I have a Logitech Gamepad F310 which can do both DirectInput and X-Input, there's a switch for that in the bottom of the controller. Best of both worlds.

As a secondary gamepad, I also have some cheapo PS2-copycat controller which is strictly DirectInput (Seaway Powerpad), but it is quite poor quality. Worked ok with Powerslide yesterday when I tried it though, even in Win98SE.

Note: I haven't tried the Legacy of Kain controls with a gamepad (DirectInput or XInput), but I might give them a try later today.

Hopefully a some sort of fix arrives in the near future :[
I think considering the game's age you must have a DirectInput controller or a controller such as the Logitech ones that can be switched to DirectInput mode.

If I recall correctly, it is important when switching modes to unplug the controller and then plug it back in so that it is properly recognized as a DirectInput controller. If you use a switchable Logitech (which I have myself) be sure to try this as I think just flipping the switch with it plugged in isn't going to work properly.

I hope that is helpful to folks with an appropriate controller.
