No place for cowards, really!

Braveland, an adorable but nonetheless epic turn-based strategy full of fantasy, charm, and clever tactics, is available DRM-free for Windows and Mac OS X on GOG.com, for only $4.99.

Braveland is a turn-based game inspired by old-school strategies with hexagonal battlefield. You will start as a humble warrior's son whose village was cruelly raided and will end as talented commander of your army. The story will take place in a hand-drawn world and cover many interesting places and characters. Various warriors will join your army - archers, scouts, healers, footmen, arbalesters, and more. With 50 battles that will test your tactical skill, 26 unit types to populate the battlefield, intense boss fights, character development, and adorable graphics style, this little gem of a game can serve as a savory appetizer for some, and the main course in the strategic feast for others.

If you thought that mighty magical heroes will never return to the land of 2D, Braveland is here to prove you wrong, for only $4.99 on GOG.com.
Unfortunately the graphics style puts me off. Too adorable. I don't want to fight with these units I want to cuddle them. Could be a Sims clone.
Meseems, now are the times of such trifles like this game.
Games for phones, oh Gods of Hell! Games for a coffee-break, all Demons of Limb!
Where are the titans of the Past? Where are the ideas, where are the bright minds? What a waste of time and waste of money...

Thanks for the detailed info! I just might buy this now, then. And how nice to get a surprise Monday release (plus a preorder).

I agree. HoMM 3 style is about as cute as I'm willing to go...

BranjoHello: Seems like the most casual HoM&M. :)

Move along, move along...
What resolution(s) does it run in? Would it work on a netbook?
So this is like Kings Bounty?
This looks great - wishlisted.

Reminds me of a flash game named Epos, witch was pretty cool for a flash game.

Actually, it looks like a simpler version of the King's Bounty remakes (which, as we know, the original King's Bounty was the pre-cursor to HoMM).
This looks like a mobile game. That is not a compliment.
Let me point something out to everyone here: the regular GOG price is $4.99. For everyone. The regular Steam price is 4.99€... which is about $6.93 currently. The promo price ATM (20% off) is 3.99€... which is $5.54. (Current) lack of Linux support notwithstanding - we're getting a decent deal :3.

Apart from that - this is probably the most adorable thing I have seen is a while...

undeadcow: Braveland is available on iPhone but it was just released on both platforms (GOG, Steam, and iOS) so not really a "port" but a cross platform release.
Same difference. It usually means it was developed with phones/tablets in mind, and compiled for PCs as an afterthought in order to try to sell some copies there as well for very little extra effort.

Of course, a game of that type can presumably easily be controlled by a touch screen without requiring simplification of the gameplay. Still, people have come to expect games developed for phones and/or tablets to be casual or "dumbed down", and furthermore to expect that any PC port of a game developed for another platform is done with as little effort as possible.

Why not say it like it is? "Braveland is a deliberate clone of King's Bounty, simplified for iPhones." ;-p

Usually I agree. But then I remember that Ace Patrol is also a mobile game ported to PC and actually turns out to be a good turn based strategy. Of course, it is not Civilization or something even close, but has a some depth. Braveland could be the same.
