Roman5: 25 Euro for me
avatar
Mephe: Oh, that's fair enough then. I guess regional pricing really is a pain in the ass.

the_bard: I clicked on that and it asked me when my bd was and I clicked on the wrong thing. Now it won't let me look at it. The muthafuckas.

Mephe: Haha, really? I didn't get an age thing when I went there. Well, here's a peek at the R18+ goodness that you're missing.
Tell you waht if DMoMM was in the one they were selling here; I wouldn't even have to think about it... instabuy. And thanks.

Pheace: The Heroes Pack is $20/€25. However, that one has Heroes V+expansions *and* Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, rather than just Heroes V+expansions
Let's say you take away Dark Messiah from the pack that would be (Figuratively speaking of course) 20 Euro Value? That's more expensive than here, not to mention the extra content

also: I just checked GamersGate, it's selling Heroes V + Expansions for 30 Euro, holy shit

http://www.gamersgate.com/DDB-HOMMGE/heroes-of-might-and-magic-v-gold-edition-bundle
Indeed, GOG should really give their competitors a chance! $5.99 for Sacrifice. That's like Madonna taking a full on encounter in return for a bus fare!

True, for us Euro's, especially full price it's cheaper here. That said, it tends to be €6.25 on the major sales. So say around 5 euro for the Heroes V Pack. I doubt GOG will be coming close to that any time soon, let alone the dollar price which'll be closer to $4

And for us AC1 is just cheap in comparison, €10, let alone when it hits a 75% sale.

Extra's are subjective. I personally don't care about them, certainly wouldn't pay more for them, but I know others would, hence why it's subjective.

I don't mind the regular price being not so competitive as long as they have a competitive sale pricing (that means 75% off or more) with the big boys.
With free games occasionally thrown out by Gog, I'm not complaining. With an excellent support team, extra additional bundles for every game (just look at Witcher 2) and a large DRM free catalogue, I'll given them all my money.

Soutalgon: I really hope GoG takes a page from Steam and gets better with the pricing. At times on steam a BRAND new game can be as low as $3!
Are you really comparing the price of a cheap indie game to that of the games released here? Why not compare the prices of the games here to the prices on Steam of the exact same game? Surely then you'd realise how flawed that comparison of yours is...
The worst business strategy GOG could use is to try to compete with big players (like STEAM) using prices.
I don't personally enjoy Steam. It has its place, sure, but I enjoy the freedom that GOG gives me with the nostalgia I look for. I cannot tell you how often I've wanted to bust out an old game only to find it not compatible even through hacks. For me, GOG is like that corner store that has what you want, when you want it, and knows who you are. It doesn't treat you like a number and there's always a cozy seat for you. They may bend a rule or two for you because you're a loyal customer and there's always a cup of coffee on the house. Even if they have to attract more people, they still seem to keep what attracted me to its service in the first place.
So while places like Steam will still be kings on the street for some time, I still pass by and head to my comfy chair at GOG... until the very end.
Thank you for moving me to a PC again. Hell... I've even bought games I KNOW I will not play, just so I can say "Here... take my money!" -Adam

GOG decided to intrude on Steam's turf by offering newer games. I believe that offering competitive pricing (bundle pricing, discounts larger than 50%) is the only way for them to succeed. Free wallpapers and avatars are not going to cut it.

They can compete with pricing if the pricing depended on them. Steam are doing promos like that to kill the competition. A lot of others way to do that. For instance they can finally fix their stupid support. And stop the food given to Gabe...

Atm GOG is giving 2 lovely games for 20$(currently prices for both on Steam is a lot more) so they are a competition already. The whole release politics of GOG is better ...they don't sell everything that comes out like Games and just for that they are so cool.
And btw Enigmatic was right checked last night and only the OST of AC1 is 10$ on iTunes so yeah you get cool extras for free... that alone is enough for me

Enough with this Steam turf already. The only thing GOG can do to make the site better is selling bundles for game series and this is the only thing missing for them. 50% off is enough.
Steam are making sales like that to destroy the competition not to make profit ;)

This is not about what you and I want personally. I'm actually willing to pay extra for DRM-free games and interesting extras - up to a point. I'm simply saying that I believe GOG will have a hard time selling their new games if they don't adapt their pricing to the fierce competition in the indie and newer game markets. It doesn't matter why Steam, Amazon.com, Humble Indie Bundle etc. keep offering such massive discounts - it's simply a fact of life that their aggressive pricing will make offerings like HOMM V for $20 a very hard sell.

Just take a look at some of the most recent releases on GOG. Within the last 6 months or so you could buy many of them at extremely low prices from GOG's competitors:

- Assassin's Creed: 87% off on Amazon.com (DRM free)
- Heroes of Might and Magic V Bundle: 75% off on Steam (+ free Dark Messiah game)
- The Whispered World: 75% off on Steam
- Trine: 80% off on Steam, pay what you want Humble Bundle (DRM free)
- Machinarium: 75% off on Steam, pay what you want Humble Bundle (DRM free)
- Darwinia: pay what you want Humble Bundle (DRM free)
I know there are many people don't care but...

You are talking about prices, stuff but you missing the point of, a game which has never been drm-free until now, released as drm-free! Until now the game was unboughtable and unplayable by me, cause i didn't want a client to play my games, i didn't wan't Tages installed in my operating system.

For me, it was a wonderful night when i saw HOMAM V released on GOG. I was shocked, thrilled, throw my hat to the air =) A change of seasons indeed that they convinced to relaese H5 drm-free.

Steam is a giant now. Competing with Steam won't be easy if not impossible. But this is a step.

Pheace: ...but because of GOG's sales. They just don't really go as extreme as the other portals, which means that equally priced games don't become as cheap as they would on the other portals. Or at least not nearly as often.

Immoli: What is the highest sale GOG has had? 60%? With them normally 50% off?
Compare that to the 75% off that other DDs often do. Hopefully they at least compete sales wise with the newer games. Bundles (Dungeons and Dragons Bundle, Oddbox, ect) would be nice too. Probably doable now with the higher price points.
I'm pretty sure I have seen GOG sales with 75% off. Not common though.

I was under the impression it was already DRM-free. I might be mistaken. If you are right then I agree it is a wonderful accomplishment and I tip my hat.
