Tarm: I'm going after steam because I think it was they that started it. Steam is constantly trying to "lock in" their customers so they'll come to steam and steam only. I find that kind of marketing and business offensive if done as aggressive as steam is doing it. A big reason for flash sales is to keep peoples attention so they don't have time to look for alternatives and if the customer miss a sale it's the customers fault even if the vendor flash it to constantly keep the customer hooked.
JMich: I'm not sure about the flash sales. I do recall that the community voting started on GOG though, back in Battle of the Games. Daily sales probably predate steam as well.
Either way, just like you've been answered in the Steam thread, you value your time more than your money. You spent ~€5 so you won't have to spend so much time on Steam, waiting for a better deal. Same reason quite a few people buy the games they want as soon as GOG sale starts, and why so many people disliked Insomnia sales (did you rant about Insomnia sale btw? It did "force" you to spend most of your time on said distributor, to save a couple of bucks).

Again, you paid a price (in € and time) that you deemed worth it. You could have spent more time and less €, but you didn't want to spend the time. You say it's not your fault for not wanting to waste the time, but the store's fault (and only the specific store, not every store) for not catering to your wishes. Meat world question: Do supermarkets in your area have specials? Like, dairy products are 20% off this Monday, soft drinks are 30% off this Wednesday, fresh vegetables are 50% off this Saturday? Do you complain to them that you can only go shopping on Fridays, thus miss all the discounts? Or do you pay the higher prices because you don't want to spend the extra time of going to the store every day? And is it your fault that you buy the products at a higher price, or the store's?

Sadly is basically a "rule". Don't buy anything if not in a daily or already 75% off. Wait until the last day to buy all the games not discounted during dailies.

Your wasting your time, not just with the community but steam in general.
Im on support ticket number 4 now about the same issue because they seem either unwilling or incapable of answering some simple questions.
The last ticket they closed without any questions being answered and the message "Steam Support has provided you with all of the relevant information regarding this issue. You can log into your account at support.steampowered.com to review your Steam Support tickets.
You will receive no further correspondence regarding this matter."
They provided no information, let alone anything relevant. But I will not let it go.
My last ticket also pointed out that I will not make any purchases of any kind that steam will see a benefit from, including retail titles that use their servers until my questions have at least been addressed if not fully answered.

I'm scratching my head but 70-50=20% of 30€ is a 6€ difference, not $2. Just thought I would point it out since we are talking about a sale and the less of a difference the less should this aggrevate anyone from an economic POV.
As for who's fault it is I suppose both of you with Steam's rather shady sales policy but one needs to adapt and now that you took this personal it will stay with you and you won't make the mistake again. Rather cheap mistake for a valuable lesson, no?
The answers at Steam is not surprising though, you can't say anything there without the assholes come swarming on you. Another good lesson, only start a thread if absolutely necessary.

One thing struck me: None of the replies on Steam deals with the actual criticism in the original post.
I mean, they could say that they like the current pricing policy, or that they didn't like it. But none of them does that. Instead they talk about how to best adapt ... none of them seems able to grasp the concept that the way Steam is run is something which can be debated.
