From time to time you stumble upon old games, that got pretty good graphic design on them, making them good looking even today standards. One of those games I stumbled upon is called Blade Warrior (PC/Amiga)

Personally I think the Blade Warrior manages to even look pretty modern with its style.

Funny thing: the PC version supports VGA, but still the game seems to use only 16 colors with in game graphics.

So, any others out there, that have managed to astonish you with good graphic design?

Another World. I remember playing this on the Sega Genesis as a kid and never played anything like it before. The opening sequence was awesome graphically for the time.
DOTT was the first thing that sprung to mind.

Probably some of the best Pixel graphics I have seen

if I recall correctly it was released in 1997 and was a stiritual successor to Strider
I would have to say Gunstar Heroes for the Sega Genesis. I didn't get to play it until it was released on Wii Virtual Console, but when I did, my mind was blown away.

There was so much going on on-screen that I wondered how the original hardware handled it. When I bought the actual cartridge, my mind was blown away again. No slow-down. Ever. Not even on Expert, where the action is constant and intense.
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. The graphics in that game beat anything that Bethesda has put out recently.

That one popped instantly to mind, the graphics are in some respects dated, but considering the age of the game, they've held up admirably. Probably the use of rotoscoping and that they spent time to work with the available graphics to produce something stylized.
MDK's graphics are pretty stylish.

swizzle66: MDK's graphics are pretty stylish.
And still looking nice in MDK2 because you can set large screen resolution
Skynet: Future Shock, Resident Evil 2 and Blade Runner where stand outs at various points in my life oh and Snatcher for the Mega Cd.
One game that comes to my mind is Ecstatica 2, I just love the colourful backgrounds and the round-ish characters. It's a very fun game and a tough one, I hope it'll make his way on the site some day !
