Fantasysci5: Been thinking about getting Audiosurf. I like the idea of a Guitar-hero kind of game, except with beat. My music collection is all things I downloaded from Youtube, however, and turned into MP3s, so not sure if the game will recognize the artist, etc. Hopefully it'll take any MP3. I looked at Beat Hazard, which seems the same except for in space, but I like the guitar-hero theme.

Do you guys like it?
It is nothing like guitar hero. It has many more puzzle/strategy elements than GH does, and its about much more than just pressing the right button at the right moment.

EDIT: I do love Audiosurf, though.

spindown: Would somebody in the Eurozone, but outside of Germany, be willing to gift me Company of Heroes on Steam for a $10 GOG? It's Eur 6,24 right now and I would buy it myself, but from Germany you can only buy a "low violence" version.

Edit: Detlik offered to help me out, thanks!
CoH is only censored if you install it with german languagy, and then the only thing censored are some references (they say "the germans" instead of "the nazis" and stuff), and thats the same for all european steam versions ^^

Man, being a german player must suck, there's constant bans and unavailabilities there. Well, one reason to be proud of where I'm from - but basically that's the only reason, so, yeah...
Drakensang 2 is not available in Europe through Steam, due to region restrictions. However, if a friend from the US gifts the game to me, will I be able to play it or he won't be able to gift it to me at all?

DavidGil: How's Rift? Just downloaded the trial and it seems at least decent (just got level 4). Mainly concerned with population and how it is end-game, plus I'm unaware of what the subscription fees are. Not concerned about soloability, as I assume it's fine up until level cap. (Seems like there's plenty of customisation for classes). I guess I'm tempted by it anyways... but I don't want to dedicate tonnes of time to it like I did a MMO years ago that shall go un-named. Plus I'm not really keen on subscription fees unless they're low due to cash problems.

Just looking into Rift and Risen at any rate. Downloaded the demo for Risen as well, so if anyone has any thoughts on that, they'd be welcome. I'm not sure how I'll buy either though. Depends on if I can resist spending more money.

Edit: Forgot to ask what the community's like in Rift.

deadfolk: I love Rift. First time I ever did a six-month sub to an MMO. Excellent class customisation, the rifts are really fun, and there's plenty to do. They are always adding new stuff.

Can't talk about the end game, as my main is only lvl 35 (max is 50).

The in-game community is awesome. Do not go to the forums. They are a hate-filled pit of bile and venom. Whiners and people complaining that a four-month-old MMO doesn't have X feature present in a five-year-old one will give you a really bad impression. To read the forums, you would think it was an unfinished, buggy mess. It's weird - the biggest complaints always seem to be about balance. Can you think of another MMO where balance was the worst you had to worry about four months after launch?

So, yeah. I love Rift. Obviously, YMMV,
Appreciate the reponse, Deadfolk. Played the Risen demo a bit and wasn't impressed, so if I'm buying anything, it'll most likely be Rift as I managed to reach level 8 I think on the trial and the game does seem good.

Way I figure it, 7 pound fifty isn't a bad price to pay even if my sub lapses at the end of the 30 days sub included (plus my trial account's 7 days).

So, is there any guild or server you can recommend? Keep in mind I'm not looking to be a hardcore player or do PvP. I'm mainly a solo player honestly, but I'm always open to grouping if the people I'm partying with are decent (as in, decent people, not decently skilled. ;) )

Edit: Guilds are joinable on trial accounts btw? i was going to use up my 7 day trial first as there doesn't seem to be any gameplay limitations, before adding my game key for activating the account and getting 30 days free.

Wow, I forgot Risen was banned here in AU, it's no on my list for sale, lucky I got the retail edition, really great game, the true gothic sequel :) Reccommend it to everyone. I'm not sre what the demo is like but for me I found combat very annoying at first, but once I got the hang of it I really loved the game.

C&C games i've been debating about. 3 was good, but not great - might be worth it for the campaign. Like I said it's ok, nothing special though. Better than supreme commander but nothing on SCII.

The gameplay in Red Alert 3 was pretty terrible, Tim Curry and George Takei are awesome, but the rest was silly and dissappointing, the missions weren't very interesting, and the units jumped the shark. I loved Red Alert but never even finished this one. I've thought about trying the expansion but I'm not sure. Felt pretty let down.

I think a lot of people felt the other way, so if you like silliness you'll probably like RA3.

Of course I haven't tried C&C 4 what with all the terrible reviews, but i think it might be worth the $4 they're asking to see the ending. I'm not expecting much out of the gameplay though.

Edit: Seriously, fuck you South Australia. Banning our games. This was supposed to be getting sorted out in July, but they said it wouldn't be retroactive. The attorney generals make me sad :(

Fifeldor: Drakensang 2 (...) from the US gift (...)
There is one positive report of this working on the Steam forum, but that's about all I could spot on the topic :(

I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to play it. There are PLENTY of games region restricted to China but I have no problem buying and playing them here. In fact, I can buy region restricted games on steam with a US credit card as well.
Shock! COH complete is actually cheaper here xD

if you want something like guitar hero - Rhythm Zone. However it's not on a discount now and if it gets discounted someday as a regular daily deal or something, be sure to check the forums first, I know it used to be quite buggy.

In addition to beat hazard, there's also The polynomial. Haven't tried it.

As for audiosurf, for that price, it's a steal. I used to be insanely addicted to it, but to my surprise some of my friends didn't like it as much (non-gamer friends though, the kind that plays maybe 2 games per year). There's the super fun mono mode which is all about reflexes, getting colored blocks, and avoiding grey blocks. And there are various other modes which are more puzzle-like and require some strategic thinking. If you get it, play it with faster/more dynamic songs definitely, and make a quick transition to the medium difficulty, much better as training imo. But there are some slower songs which look just gorgeous in the mono mode, the whole track ends up looking literally like a rainbow. The tag has nothing to do with how the track is generated, so you can play songs without tags too. Getting a nice place on the board rocks, but frankly you can avoid it completely, there's a lot of fun in just trying to beat your own score.

p.s. *fangirl mode* since you mentioned gh, have you ever played ddr? :) if you like rhythmic games even a tiny bit and haven't, you must! the world's most fun way to keep your butt firm and keep in shape in general ;)

DavidGil: Stuff...
I'm pretty much the same - mainly solo. I like being in a casual guild, as you get to know the people and can help each other out, but there's no obligation.

I've not had time to play for a few weeks, and they've introduced free server moves since I was last on, so my guild might even have scattered to the four winds for all I know. I can recommend my server, though - Shadefallen. Really great community. It's an RP server, but people don't really RP much in my experience. There are just less dicks.

Not sure about the ability to join a guild on a trial a/c. To be honest, you're probably better playing without a guild for the first few days anyway. It encourages you to explore and get stuff yourself without being handheld.

Thanks man, as well as Fujek, I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Please report back here on how it worked out.
I'm very tempted to try the same, so it'd be very interesting to know if you succeed.

JudasIscariot: If you think games are expensive in France, then you ought to see what it's like in the former Eastern Block countries i.e. central and Eastern Europe. You'll be glad to live in France after that bit of culture shock.
Sorry to hear/read that things are hard for you that way in Poland.

Kabuto: I figure we should have a separate thread for the steam summer sale to make things easier.

I'm glad Recettear was on sale and advertised as a main sale or else I never would have even noticed its existence. Luckily gamersgate matches though so I could have a drm-free copy.

Anyway, I think it's a good buy if anyone wants a hybrid shop management/dunegeon hack and slash rpg. $5.00 instead of $20 until 10am pacific (don't know how long gamersgate will continue to match).
I bought "Recettear" also , but I think it gets too hard too soon unless one is a real entusiast and wants to spend all ones time on the wiki and forum to get tips and tricks, I think that this game seriousloy needs a difficulty settings option so one can play it more laid back and casual...

And b.t.w. then the "Steam sale 2011" have emptied my wallet .
