SimonG: Unless you are sitting in Germany, which will never see the collection due to Wolfenstein and Doom 2.
They're in the ID Super Pack, AFAIK, not the Quake Collection ☺

Psyringe: So where are the non-Steam versions of Skyrim and Fallout: New Vegas then? Ah, right - there are none. ;)

I think you misread my post, which is a bit odd, since - even if the wording weren't clear - it should've become clear from the context, imho?

StingingVelvet: I think you mis-wrote your post, since using Steamworks does not mean they don't sell their games elsewhere.
Aha. And where in my post did I claim that they only sold their games on Steam? Right, nowhere. :) Keep re-reading my post, you'll get there eventually. :)

No, seriously: there are probably better ways to express the meaning I wanted to bring across (I'm not a native speaker), but I still find my post hard to misunderstand, and I simply didn't write what you claim I wrote. But this argument is getting silly, so if it pleases you, we can settle at "you're right and I got my peace" just as well. ;)

Found it:

Psyringe: Bethesda has adopted a policy to release their games exclusively on Steam

Darling_Jimmy:
I think Psyringe meant Steam as a "plattform", not as a retailer.

read the sentence like this:

Bethesda has adopted a policy to release their games exclusively with Steamworks.

Thank you, I did actually understand the intent (the very next sentence gave it away.) That statement is unclear, however, and it is not surprisingly interpreted to mean otherwise.

I wasn't sure if it was sarcasm or not , Damn you internet! ;-)

Interestingly enough, that "mistake" or "unclearity" might actually be something very important when it comes to questions about market dominance and anti trust questions.

Kezardin: License issues aside, as things stand GOG has no way to compete with the pricing of the Quake Collection.

So, even if GOG did get the licenses for various Quakes, there'd be people bitching long and loud that' it's 'Cheeper on Steem !!!'

Slightly OT, Wolfenstein holding it up I get, but why Doom 2? They did officially allow Doom to be sold in Germany a while back, I don't really understand what exactly changed there. Unless of course I'm wrong about that.

As for Wolfenstein, if it was a priority they could either leave it out of the pack. I suppose that changing it to be like the SNES version would be more trouble than it's worth.

Doom 2 has two bonus levels which are lifted from Wolfenstein 3d. With all art assets intact, if you know what I mean.

IIRC, the german release of Doom 2 had them removed. Hence it was only indexed and not banned. They could pack the german Doom 2 release (which shouldn't be indexed anymore, at least Doom 1 isn't) for germans, however...

Yes, I had totally forgotten about those levels. It does make a sort of sense, I had completely forgotten about that aspect of the game.

I'd classify this as silly, but understandable. Not that there's any reason to go arguing about this.

I refuse to play Battlefield 3 because it doesn't use my SecuROM friends list.
