I have purchased several GoG games and I think the site is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but how can any self-respecting 'old games' site not include the Quake series?
This baffling to me as that series is one of the most popular FPS of all time.

Are there licensing issues preventing you from selling them?

Long story short: yes.

Nope, ID stills sells it on their website. I don't see this changing anytime soon.

How come? All Quake games are sold on steam without a problem.

But GOG doesn't have a license to sell them.
Yes. But it's hardly "licensing issue" like it is with System Shock for example.

It's just they don't have agreement because:
a) they can't offer a good deal to ID
b) ID can't offer a good deal to them.

But what else would you call it? (And I think Bethesda owns the rights now).

Basically iD hasn't licensed. But the Steam version is basically DRM free once you download your copy. I got my second copy that way because it was the cheapest way of getting iD's later works.

I was not suggesting licensing is a seemingly complex and impossible situation like System Shock. Gog is currently not licensed to sell Quake. Ipso facto; licensing issue.
I love people with absolutely no sense of the business stuff behind games. Honestly... it's so gloriously naive. I wish I were one of them.

This is not a joke post.

-I can download it for free legally, why should I buy it?

-Legally free?

- Yes, it has been released as Abandonware.

....

If I would get a GOG everytime I read this. ..

I've read quite a few RPG Codex threads that have this exact thing in them over and over again.

...you'd reread it dozens of times.

That's crap.
ID are selling their entire damn collection on steam for like 70$, they would actually get more dough by selling them in smaller packs DRM-free on GOG.

Also, I'm quite nostalgic about Commander Keen.
