One of the most famous space simulation saga gets its appearance on GOG.com. Choose your fate in the Wing Commander universe!

[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/wing_commander_privateer]Wing Commander: Privateer is another classic gem from the critically acclaimed Origin Systems. The famous Wing Commander universe serves as the setting for this exceptional Elite-style game. It draws its concept and inspiration from this classical masterpiece and elevates it to a whole new level. An entire galaxy is there to explore or find a good trade route, get rich, and pimp out your ship. ;)

Be a pirate, a merchant, or a bounty hunter serving the highest bidder. Make life-long friendships and earn sworn enemies that will track you down and attempt to wipe you out. At the end of the day the only thing that counts is your Credit Balance.
This game does not require a joystick. Can't wait to give this a go.

If you like this, you may like these two remakes as well.

They take some time to get working, but they're fun. I still prefer the polish of the original though.
What about Righteous Fire add-on? Not included?
That'd be a huge letdown.

Stevezen: PLEASE stop calling it an 'ELITE Clone' its nothing of the kind!!
its a space simulation come shooter..

I don't remember trading commodities in Wing Commander??
just because its set in space you can't give it an 'ELITE Clone' tag.. thats stupid.
Privateer 1 & 2 are space combat/trade simulators. A Wing Commander Universe side-story if you will (Though Privateer 2's links to the WC universe are tenuous at best). You pilot a cargoship/fighter and shoot/trade your way to glory, just the same as Elite. That said, I wouldn't call it a clone, just a game in the same genre.

By the lack of a mention in the description, I assume Righteous Fire isn't included?

reaver894: Hmmm shouldn't Vagabond have got here by now?
He must have asploded.

Our version of Wing Commander: Privateer doesn't include the Righteous Fire add-on.

Arteveld: Got it! :D

Vagabond's probably in ICU by now. Orgasmic seizure or something.;)
The question is, why aren't you in the ICU? They announced Crusader is coming, I figured that would have at least caused you an aneurysm.

Due to licensing reasons we couldn't get the Righteous Fire add-on.

I think i've missed that part. When i heard, the first EA games are available, and rushed to the checkout. :P
Then i was busy fixing the horrid sound setup in UU1.
In other words, i ain't got time to bleed. :D
Or perhaps, i'm lagged, and i'll pass out in a few hours, when the "Holy F..k Signal" hits my brain. It might still be searching for one.:>

[edit]

Oh, and what's that "WC_Privateer_soundtrack_QRC" mutant in the extras?
Are we getting a soundtrack too?

Now where's Prophecy. And please try to get the Righteous Fire add on. GoG users want as complete a game as possible. You should know that by now. ;)

The soundtrack in WC:Priv. was great, so atmospheric, not really much music, more the kind of background tune that accentuated how lonely space is.
Somehow the atmosphere in the space cities reminds me of Blade Runner.

BTW, WC:Priv used to be quite problematic to run on newer systems, because of the alien Virtual Memory driver it used.
The DOS drivers for most sound cards took a big bite out of the low-memory areas, so you could not run the game because it did not have enough low memory. Oh curse you, Bill Gates: "640kb is enough for everybody".Himem, Extended memory... Thankfully these days are gone now.

Curses! Ahh well. I'll be holding off buying it then till either it does have it, or its in a 50% (or more) off sale... Already bought the game at least four times... And broke the CD twice... (In the same day. A speaker fell on my first copy, luckily I'd seen a re-issue in a shop the week before, bought that, got it home and... Somehow snapped it. I was not a happy bunny).

That's unfortunate. :( Well, please keep trying to get RF.
