Catshade: Well, the game is now currently #6 on weekly bestseller list, so obviously many people think the price is fair enough for them to buy the game.

Fair point, except there's no way to tell how that translates to actual amount of units sold. Fallouts occupy the 8th and 9th place and I can't really imagine they sell like hotcakes these days. I'd love to see the actual figures, even though I know there are very good reasons I won't.

Elwin: *sigh* Here we go again... First there are cries "Give us PG1-2 already" , then "$10 is too expensive", then if PG1 arrives with $6 pricetag it'll be "Cool, now I'll wait for a promo and then take it".

Those two statements are not interchangeable. If it's a game you don't want to play immediately, or already own on disc, or only have a passing interest in, there's not much reason to buy it immediately even if you think the price is fair. If it's just going to go in the pile to be played at some arbitrary date in the future, why shouldn't I wait for a sale? This is not the same thing as stating that the game is overpriced.
I almost never buy $50 new releases, either. That's the going rate, but I don't pay it. I wait a few months and pay $10-20 instead. I don't think that makes me a greedy bastard who hates the developers.

Elwin: Everything can be cheaper. But "old games are the best" and "I'm not going to pay decently for old games" does not rhyme. We are basically forcing publishers to offer newer titles, as higher pricetag on those are more easily justified.

That doesn't make sense. If the publisher thinks they can make a higher profit at the $5.99 price point, then they will release the game at $5.99. If it's released at $9.99, it's because the publisher thinks there is more money to be made at that price, not because it is The Price and only games that fit The Price may be released.
Pricing complaints are not as common here as you imply. I read most of the new release threads, and I only recall a few that saw significant numbers of complaints about the price. The first Heroes of Might and Magic and the Oddworld games come to mind.
Even GOG didn't want to sell HoMM for ten dollars - the release was delayed due to pricing negotiations with Ubisoft, until a compromise was reached whereby the game was sold at $5.99 for the first week of release before being raised to $9.99.
Most of the games on GOG are priced very reasonably, including Ubisoft's own Might and Magic collection - one of the best deals on the entire site. I'm sure most members will agree with that. Two people might value the same game differently, obviously, but I don't think a lot of people here whine about the prices just because they want something for nothing. If they were, they likely wouldn't be on this site in the first place.
Just because the game is $10 doesn't mean it's overpriced, but just because the game has a price doesn't mean the price is fair. Is $10 a reasonable price for PG2? Maybe. Sales figures will tell.

gammalost: I think every person has a limit to how much he/she is willing to pay for a product. How much does a person who's never played this game want to spend? In most cases not $10.
So what's best? Sell lets say 100 copies at $10 or 400 copies at 6$ each ?
As for Ubisoft.. I think the company is somewhat customer unfriendly.
They are one of the major supporters of DRM that will actually punish paying customers.
Fortunately there are places like GOG who offer DRM-free games, and thus gets my money.

It's not that I like Ubisoft, I don't :-) and like most here I do think that 6 $ would have been a wiser move. I was just trying to highlight the hypocrisy of your greedy comment above me that were scolding Ubisoft for being greedy.
I am myself very greedy, I have a big collection of games here, I have bought most of them on sale and there are many that I haven't played yet.
Greed is not always a bad thing though, greed drives the economy forward. The downside to the economy going forward is that more and more of the natural environment gets ruined.
But buying and selling computer games over the internet is one thing that has practically no negative impact on the environment, so our conscience should be clean on this.

Seeing this game both on gog's "most sold games this week" and "highest rated games this week" list might be an indication that this game was not so overpriced after all. I bought it right away and so far (4 scenarios into the first campaign) I think it was very well spent money. The graphics are a bit annoying (the original Panzer General had much clearer graphics), but other than that the game is really good. In fact, sadly, it is better in most ways than the recent wargames I have bought from niche wargame publishers (or those games I have seen screenshots of and decided not to buy). The user interface is really nice. I can see now where some of the good things in Panzer Tactics DS came from that was not in the original Panzer General (although surprisingly some obvious good things like automatic mouting on trucks are missing from Panzer Tactics although it existed already in PGII).
I would love to see a collection of even older SSI games. The first Panzer General is a given, but it would be fantastic if gog could get the rights to a big number of older MSDOS SSI games and put them all in one bundle. Guess it is much cheaper to do a dosbox installer than to manually port a Windows game to a modern OS anyway, so the big job is probably just to convince someone to sell the rights cheap enough that the bundle would be attractive.
Also there were some other mainstream more polished wargames in the mid 90's, like the V 4 Victory series from Atomic Games.
