GOG, you guys are pretty wonderful. I already have the game, but not the expansion (didn't even know such a thing existed), so I'll probably have to be all over this.

Ravenger: The Defiance campaign has mid-mission save points, but it's still a rock-hard campaign. I should know. I wrote half the missions for it. :)
Great to see this game on sale after all these years. I can't wait to play it again.

Wut? We have a god among us! /joking
Welcome to GOG, Mr. Ravenger. It's nice to see developers so passionate about gaming as entertainment, that they came back to play their titles even years after.

Freyar: You guys could have totally gotten away with charging $9.99 on this one. :P Thank you none-the-less.

Hahaha yeah, I will have to agree with you.
I would gladly pay $9.99 for a realistic game like this, and with people saying it got a cool backstory and gameplay. Hoping that I-War 2 lands on GOG soon.
Too bad I've skipped I-War 1 and 2 back in the day 'cause I hadn't a joystick and wasn't into the simulation genre, I did played FreeSpace only. Now I'll buy both games for sure. :)
I've wanted these games for a long time, though I have to admit that I never heard of them 'til I-War 2 was already several years old. Everyone here in the States was all about Freespace, and I never saw a retail copy of any of the games on store sehlves.
I'd like I-War 2's open-ness more, but I'll still be glad to take the first game and expansion (which use a fixed mission structure like Freespace and Wing Commander).
As for flight sticks...well, given that this game allows full 6DoF control like Descent, I'll probably be pining for the Spacetec SpaceOrb 360. But if I use the ministick on my Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar for sliding around on the translational X and Y axes (assuming translational Z is forward and back while Y is up and down), it'll probably work out fine, perhaps better since I'm not constrained to just six buttons.

Narushima:
Why is GOG selling games in USD?! WHAT IS THIS I DEMAND A LAWYER

That I am not complaining about because it makes games cheaper for me !
avatar
Eclipse: same here and it's surely more fair than valve, as they do 1USD = 1 EUR on steam, that makes the price 30% higher to ones living in europe.
Just use an online exchange calculator to know the right price in your currency and stop complaining :)

I think that was sarcasm, directed at the OP :)
GoG... I love you..
SO much!

Hellfire: honest question: i own i-war 2 already, why should i buy this too?
i don't really know its quality, perhaps this one is better than the second, just asking.

I preferred the first one, though the second is a great game too. In I-war 1, I really enjoyed the fact that you could use 4 different "modes" corresponding to various posts on the command deck : captain for overall ship management, pilot for the front view used in most other games, gunner to have a nice 360° view of the battle, and engineer to optimise the repairs by manually affecting priorities to various subsystems. That's a nice feature that really makes you understand that you are commanding a 150m corvette with a full crew, not the usual 10m fighter.
Frakking A! I always wanted to play this title, now I can do it hassle free with GOG's uber cheap release. It is a game, it is old, and it is GOOD.
After playing this for a while I can confirm that GOG have fixed the issues which originally prevented the game from running on modern machines.
There are a few mostly fixable technical issues here and there, but they've performed a miracle to get it working this well considering it used to be very difficult if not impossible in some circumstances to get it working properly on XP or WIndows 7.
The GOG version also uses the enhanced 3Dfx graphics of the US release, which are much better than the original software mode.
GoG is very sneaky and persistant. When this first was released a few days ago, I was really close to buying it on the spot. I went as far as to add it to my cart, but then I realized I have some games I'm stil playing through and I can just pick this up later.
Little did I realize that for the next few days that everytime I log onto this site the little "My Cart" flag at the top right keeps appearing reminding me that I have I-war in my cart. I tried ignoring it, but after a few days, I gave in. Purchased.

Wait what now? Are they using a Glide Wrapper? I've never been able to get one of those things work well for me.
Yep, I was shocked, this one DOES have the glide wrapper. or something.... It is not a software render for sure. I was able to turn on AA, etc. in my video driver. Looks AWESOME!!!
Somehow I never heard about this game before, but it looks like it is quite nice title. I will surely buy it, as soon as I get a joystick.
Now GOG, any chances for MechWarrior or Heavy Gear?
This game is one of my best memories of these last 15+ years of gaming.
I still have the the 7 discs (I bought it twice, once one the initial release and once when they released the pack with the standalone expansion, which I found at a very low price) but I'm going to buy it again.
This is probably one of the best space sim ever and I'm glad they made it Vista/7 compatible. I never managed to have it work since I ditched my good old 3DFx, the Glide wrapper thing never really worked (at least for me).
I hope they'll release the sequel as well. I'd love to revisit Grandma's old pirate base.
I too, own the disk version along with the manual (With mis-spellings!) and I'll be purchasing this as well. I have awfully fond memories of this and its' sequel which will hopefully appear here as well for those who don't have it yet.
P.S. - Hi Stephen!!! It's been a long time since I've seen you on a forum, but RL catches us all I suppose, and I haven't the time I once had for gaming and such anymore.
In a way I'm kind of sad to see I-War here as it just provides one more nail in the coffin of the V5500 PIII 1000 that I have KVM'd to my current desktop. I hardly ever fire it up except for a few 3dfx legacy titles and now that they've fixed I-War its' one step closer to obsolescence.
But much thanks and Love to GOG for bringing us this, hopefully it will sell well and Mr. Robertson can coast into the next decade on a modest pile of cash due to the royalties......oh wait, I'm dreaming aren't I? But at any rate thanks to all concerned and especially the afore-mentioned Dev. who gave up a lot of his time and effort at the Atari forums to help all of us I-War fans come to grip with our modern PCs and continue to enjoy their games well into the 21st century!
EDIT: putting my game related question in the other forum.
To anyone that made the game reading this: thanks. Great game
To GOG: thanks for making it available on modern machines. It's a huge hassle to get this one to work on Vista.
Ivo.
