16 campaigns, 17 nations, 76 missions, 150 units, and 321 years of American History.

American Conquest + Fight Back, one of the best attempts to recreate early American history in a strategy game, is now available at GOG.com for only $5.99.

Between 1492, when Columbus discovered America, and 1813, when the war of 1812 had ended, seventeen nations, from England to France--from Spain to the Sioux Nation--battled for domination over the American continent (or just some of its parts). Sure, you may be familiar with Pizarro's Expedition or the American War of Independence, but Alaskan campaign of the Russians or finding El Dorado by Ambrosius Ehinger will definitely teach you something about both tactics and history.

American Conquest + Fight Back follows the path of its predecessor Cossacks and mixes war strategy, battle tactics, and a simple economy. During the game you will expand your forts, increase your economic and scientific potential, and finally control larger and larger armies in epic battles. Gameplay mechanics were also improved by adding a diplomacy system and something resembling a morale system as your units may now even flee the battlefield when loosing heavily, while officers and military drummers can keep your battle formations stronger.

Whether you scream "Hoka Hey!", "¡Tierra y Libertad!" or simply "Yee Haw!" when going into battle, American Conquest + Fight Back is one of the finest history-based strategies for PC, especially when the game’s only $5.99 on GOG.com
Ok, thanks for the info. It's good you tried :)

discordiac: But, even without the 2nd expansion, it still take a lot of time to complete both American Conquest and AC: Fight Back campaigns + single missions + mulitplayer missions.
Says discordiac, with dark circles under his eyes and piles of empty coffee cups littering his desk. :)

keeveek: It means Divided Nation is gone forever... *sighs*

keeveek: can you please tell us what's with Divided Nation expansion? Why isn't avaible anywhere? Have you tried to obtain it?
You can thank the ever-popular "legal and licensing" reasons.

EDIT: Apparently discordiac levelled up last night and put his points in "ninja". :P

I remember playing this one, but I don't think I did so for very long. Not one of my beloved strategy classics, but it does have an impressive amount of soldiers on-screen :)
Will grab this at some point looks good to me. Pity about the expansion oh well hopefully in time and a lot of legal matters fixed we will get it.

Actually I do have dark circles under my eyes, and surely you know the feeling comrade-in-arms :D

DotEmu sells this for 9.99€, so GOG ($5.99) definitely wins this round, even if DotEmu has the 19.95€ bundle pack as well.

Yeah, but I can't understand how's that possible. IT's based on the same engine, it doesn't use any licensed features (brands etc), it shares the same name brand as the other two.

How is that even possible that rights to that one particular expansion is in the other hands... :P

Just a clarification, is it an expansion, or a proper sequel? MobyGames suggests it is a sequel, ie. American Conquest 2 in practise.

http://www.mobygames.com/game/windows/american-conquest-divided-nation

I guess with some "stand-alone expansion packs" it is hard to say whether it is a proper sequel or not... Anyway, according to MobyGames, Divided Nation has 9 campaigns, which is one more than in the first AC. That suggests a sequel.

That of course does not change the licensing issues, but just that if it is a sequel, I wasn't expecting it to be included with this same release.

You can call it a sequel, but for me it's rather standalone expansion

Due to e.g. smaller size than the original?
avatar
WBGhiro: That's a lot of units!
avatar
discordiac: Yes, American Conquest featured 100, and Fight Back expansion added another 50.

Lafazar: Or Anachronox... :P
avatar
discordiac: wait and see ... ;)
But it's so hard to wait!! I too am hoping to see Anachronox and please, please get the rest of Ultima out to us. I NEED Ultima VIII and IX to complete my GOG Ultima Collection!

On a happy note about today's release, this received a great review from Gamespot. So did the included expansion but I'll just link the main review for you guys if you are interested:

I really try to love you GOG, but if you continue like this, my wallet won't have anything left to buy games with. Still, game from my youth I spent too many an hour on. Instabuy...or should I be smarter than on Tuesday and wait for until you publish Cossacks II and then buy them with the 10% discount? ;)

Good game. Good price.
I'm going to assume that like with Conflict: Desert Storm, there will people who don't appreciate the subject matter (historically-accurate, right?). For me, It's a more understandable in this case, with mass slaughter of Native Americans and South Americans, but still, 'tis just a game.

Oh wait, maybe since you can play as up to 12 nations, it's not so "one-sided" as Conflict?
