Klumpen0815: What I see are some millionaires doing as was agreed on.
You do not really believe they are actually playing.
I don't know how it's done in American Football/Rugby, but Soccer f.e. is extremely corrupt and it may be the same everywhere where there is a lot of money involved, it's not a game anymore then but a show.

cjrgreen: One good thing you can say about US professional sports in general is that they are run cleanly and honestly. That's not to say that they are played for enjoyment: they're played for big money and political influence. But the refusal of governing bodies and the public to tolerate dishonest influences, especially gambling, has deep roots and is respected. The curious should seek out the life of Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis, Commissioner of Baseball from 1920 to 1944.
I heard other stuff concerning "boxing".

Tarm: All I see when watching sports are adults playing as children thinking exactly like children do when they play. "This is the most important thing in the universe". .. About the only time I can understand sport is when it's country vs country. I'm not really sure why. Maybe I'm a nationalist at heart? ;)
Yes. And yes.

But is going on a frenzy really that bad? We do this for sports, movie premieres, actors, royalty, religious figures, and of course various patriotic/nationalist holidays.

If we didn't bust a gut about something, we'd be pretty boring as a society.
