Worst game. Greatest game story.

Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie, a Cinemassacre-made and Devolver-published action-mockumentary following the angriest retro video game reviewer on his investigation of a game so terrible it had to be buried in a landfill, is available for only $7.99 on GOG.com.

Based on the hit web series of the same name, the science fiction/adventure/comedy, Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie, follows a disgruntled gamer who must overcome his fear of the worst video game of all time in order to save his fans. Hilarity ensues as a simple road trip becomes an extravagant pursuit of the unexpected. The film is low budget and independent, made without any major studio involvement, completely fan-funded. This is a movie made by fans, for fans.

He's gonna take you back to the past, and other fun places, too! Get James Rolfe's feature-length Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie for only $7.99 on GOG.com!

HiPhish: but I do know Spoony is going to make his own movie. We're about to reach critical mass of ego inflation.
I watched his video regarding reaching that pantheon... Basically he's going to write and do what he can that doesn't really cost anything but time, as everything else costs too much just yet. On the other hand he said he wasn't going to make a 'spoony movie', so rather than being out there it will probably be a lot more normal. I wouldn't expect him to have a script ready for a year or so.

I've recently watched a few of the low budget films and they are really great. Because they aren't trying to make the films more than they are, and usually jab at common tropes and things done in TV shows and movies. My favorite is perhaps the red shirt in To Boldly Flee 'and you shake that camera for extra dramatic effect!!!'.

Of course I also really enjoy low budget videos that break down high costing movies and showing the historical inaccuracies and stupidities that make the film totally unbelievable, like LinyBeige.

But this is greatly off topic about the movie.

I'll probably get it when it's heavily on sale, I'll have no expectations and try to enjoy it for what it is.
I outgrew the comedic side of AVGN, but I think James Rolfe is a great dude when he's out of character, so I'll pick this up eventually.

phaolo: Can you please adopt .MKV + subtitles for movies?
Even Microsoft finally acknowledged its importance in the new Windows version..

JudasIscariot: We would but we found it's not as compatible across a wide variety of devices as the MP4 format. Besides, it's still just a container like an MP4 and you can have subs already added to the MP4 without having to muck about with .srt files.
Uh, I didn't receive a notice about your reply.
Thanks for the info, even if I hope that you'll switch to it in the future together with Hevc.
Great to see this movie here, so shortly after release! Considering James Rolfe usually puts a lot of his videos on a streaming platform you can't download (and only a few go to youtube), I thought they would wait a lot longer to sell it DRM-free. But here is is, a pleasant surprise. Thanks, GoG!

Now it would be awesome if you managed to bring in as well Angry Video Game Nerd: the game!
I used to be quite a fan of AVGN in the past. Not so much anymore, but I'm still happy to see the movie make its way over here. I'll probably check it out at some point.

Has anyone watched it yet?
Any good?
Should have been here day 1 - however, unfortunately the movie isn't very good...

I hope they get the AVGN Game here, now THAT I will buy.
Wow now this is a good one to see here!!. Definitely going to buy it this month.

Question: is there a chance of you getting the AVGN Adventures since you already got the movie??
I would prefer the AVGN game, but I guess the movie is fine too.

I think alot of people are being overly harsh on this flick.

The AVGN movie that we all thought it could be wasn't going to happen, notice how any and all game footage is fake and how he uses sound-alike titles instead of the real ones. If he was to make a movie like the web series he would have had to pay exorbitant licensing fees on every game and company featured, and that was never going to happen on a 300k budget.

No, it wasn't really a "movie length AVGN episode", what it was was an original story that just happened to star the AVGN. Taken on it's merits as a limited budget, independent film, I think it's surprisingly polished and entertaining.

Edit: Oh, and can we have the game now too please?

rodrolliv: So I guess you are not a fan of Linkara either :P

I mention him because he's gonna release an Indiegogo campaign for an AT4W movie soon, probably this month. I'm confident we'll see it on GOG in the distant future.

InfraSuperman: I reckon that's going to be pretty painful. I used to like Linkara, but recently, his videos were pretty boring.

Apparently, Spoony has announced a movie as well (rather reluctantly, from what I understand)...
I'm expecting the Spoony movie to be three hours of bitching about wrestling or role-playing, while periodically showing contempt for his audience. Why deviate from what you already know how to do?
I've enjoyed the movie, despite it's flaws! Thanks for bringing it to us, GOG!

Is there any chance the AVGN game could show up on GOG?

There's always a chance. Let's just hope and vote for it.

Hmm, it looks like there are multiple wishlists for it. Here is another one. I wonder if they can be merged.
