Worst game. Greatest game story.

Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie, a Cinemassacre-made and Devolver-published action-mockumentary following the angriest retro video game reviewer on his investigation of a game so terrible it had to be buried in a landfill, is available for only $7.99 on GOG.com.

Based on the hit web series of the same name, the science fiction/adventure/comedy, Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie, follows a disgruntled gamer who must overcome his fear of the worst video game of all time in order to save his fans. Hilarity ensues as a simple road trip becomes an extravagant pursuit of the unexpected. The film is low budget and independent, made without any major studio involvement, completely fan-funded. This is a movie made by fans, for fans.

He's gonna take you back to the past, and other fun places, too! Get James Rolfe's feature-length Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie for only $7.99 on GOG.com!
I have kept an eye on this movie decided to buy it now. Thought was ok could have been better but still a few laughs.
Seeing the somewhat mixed reactions to this film, I remembered that there actually is a pretty good movie based on an internet personality: Ashens and the Quest for the Gamechild.
And yes, it's officially free to watch.
I'd love to see an option to turn off movie related posts and news if I am logged in.

The whole movie thing is annoying crap, nothing more to me... sorry for being so blunt. It seems to me just an aweful idea.
I like that by buying this, I can support both GOG and AVGN.

That being said, ugh this movie was terrible. I actually fell asleep watching it.

The worst thing is that the long awaited Eee Tee review is during the credit roll, and is so half hearted, and lacking any real AVGN spontaneity. It just felt literally tacked on the end.

I don't know why this sat so long in post, and why it took so long to get to this point.

Maybe better luck next time.

The unnecessary black knightesque military villain, with his bumbling side kicks really added nothing. The big plot point of them forcing a 'bros before hoes' moment wasn't that big of a payoff, and even then it was all quickly forgotten.

They did a good job of keeping AVGN liquored up, but there was no amazing rage as a result. Even worse for the climax not even a booze fueled rampage, but rather an all too boring ending.

Sigh, better luck next time.

I'll still kick in my $7

I adore Stuart Ashen but I didn't enjoy Gamechild all that much due to the Chef Excellence character, who I found more out of place and annoying than anything in the AVGN movie.

That said it did have some good Asheny moments and I'd still buy it if it came here.

He is my favorite internet video maker.. he really understands the feeling on my childhood gaming :) he surely deserves this money
I felt dumber after watching it, but it was a blast getting there, and they make sure you know the name of the man responsible for E.T. by the time the film is over. I think for a totally independent production this was really well done and enjoyable. Thank GOG and AVGN!
-10/100 would not play. he's not fat or ugly-bearded enough, he doesn't whine like the real moron he's based on, and he still has nothing relevant to contribute to nerd culture.

InfraSuperman: I reckon that's going to be pretty painful. I used to like Linkara, but recently, his videos were pretty boring.

Apparently, Spoony has announced a movie as well (rather reluctantly, from what I understand)...

shadowknight2814: I'm expecting the Spoony movie to be three hours of bitching about wrestling or role-playing, while periodically showing contempt for his audience. Why deviate from what you already know how to do?
I lol'd so much at this comment it's true. The last thing I liked that spoony did was the ring dreamcast game review, minority report was also pretty decent a review. But yeah since then not good at all.
I enjoyed watching this movie, but mainly from the sense that it was mostly one person's efforts that made it happen. I was glad that James Rolfe got the opportunity to create a feature length film (a huge ambition of his) despite the fact that I wasn't expecting it to be very good.

Rolfe studied film in college. I believe he has had some professional post-production work experience, and has obviously garnered skill from making his Angry Video Game Nerd webisodes. With Rolfe having no actual professional directorial/producer work in the past, this movie was gearing up to be a glorified backyard home video.

By his own admission, Rolfe learned a lot of do's and don'ts while producing this film, these experiences having been shared online throughout production and post: I enjoyed these more than the movie itself.

Wanting to have an "authentic" movie-making experience, Rolfe set most of the production in LA. His first retrospective was that this is unnecessary, as he found out what it meant to be gouged. I firmly believe that you can produce a relatively simple movie anywhere, but it was interesting to hear it from someone's first-hand experience.

Anyway, the movie was awful. It was full of camp, terrible acting, intentionally cheesy effects, and monster movie homages. There were some funny moments, but far from enough to carry the film. It wasn't very well written and was rather predictable. I'm certain that Rolfe did not cut anything from the film in post... there were a number of useless scenes that probably stayed in only because he wanted to make the most of what was shot (or keep the run-time as long as possible). In general, it would have been wiser to take a different approach and not make something that tries to be bigger than it is.

This is all forgivable and adds charm to a web-series, but it's a well-deserved criticism for something you have to pay to watch.

Again, I had my reasons for enjoying it. If you like the AVGN web-series... maybe watch this if you have money to burn. If not, don't bother.

Note: I didn't watch the movie via GOG so I can't vouch for the streaming quality.

masterotaku: I knew this would be here sooner or later :p. But only 720p? Mmmmm, I may buy the blu ray instead.
We now host the 1080p version as well as subtitles in quite a few languages, one of them being Spanish :)

Thanks for the info. Chances of me buying this movie here have increased a lot (will wait for a sale, probably, because I'm short on money nowadays).

No worries, take your time :) The Nerd isn't going anywhere :)
What I want to know is when we're going to get the AVGN game on here...
The movie is out on Blu-Ray now, any chance the Blu-Ray bonuses will be added to the gog version?
