DRM_free_fan: I didn't say I agree. I was explaining why I thought you were joking. (I'm only partway thru 4, I've put it on hold until I complete URU Complete Chronicles)
keeveek: And you don't think they are awesome? :P I love the story in Myst 3, it was a rare occasion when I really felt sympathetic towards the bad guy in the end. And I love the puzzles in those games, most of them perfectly logical, based on mathematics and thinking. Myst IV looked gorgeous, when I first launched it, my jaw dropped on the floor.
And I love them for their FMV with good quality acting (imho)
I never finished Myst and Riven, so maybe they are really better games, but my love for Exile and Revelation lasts for many years and many replays.
Myst 3: Exile = No. I felt disengaged from the story and the puzzles were annoying. Having just played Myst & Riven (in order), Myst 3 felt jarring. I give you that the parts of the game did look nice (especially the start) but graphics aren't everything.
Myst 4: Revelations = Yes. The game is beautiful and the storyline (well the part I have played) is interesting (even if it contradicts Myst 1). I have heard that the storyline goes downhill near the end of the game but.
If you like the FMV & acting more than the storyline, I
don't recommend you play Myst & Riven. If, however you appreciate a good storyline more, I highly recommend that you
do.
(Especially if you can get your hands on the Myst books - All three are Myst canon and supply most of the background story. I found that the books make the games far more engaging & rewarding to play).
