Trying to play Jedi Knight 2 on my laptop. Plays okay with no AA, but the bigger problem is my shots don't hit shit. I unload on storm troopers and it goes all around them despite the reticule being right on them... takes like 10 minutes to kill a group of them.

Is this normal? Arg!

Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast? Hmmm ... that doesn't sound right.

It's true that different weapons have different accuracy - but I don't think even the worst (the blaster rifle) is that bad, which weapon are you using? The blaster rifle or the blaster pistol? Which level are you on? What difficulty are playing at?

First level, right at the start... I just shoot at them endlessly. I think the reticule is really throwing me off, Jedi Knight does something similar and it never bothered me.

I think you're better off using the single shot blaster at the start.

Yeah ... the E11 blaster rifle has bad aim, which gets worse with its special fast rate fire ability (though it makes up for it with speed), but it should be usable - I use to head shot stormtroopers with it. The blaster pistol should have better aim (but less power in each shot).

Are you firing in 3rd-person or 1st-person mode?

Yeah it's not a great weapon - I can't remember if in the 1st level you get access to a bowcaster, but I loved that as my ranged weapon.

But the blaster shouldn't be *that* bad - I agree. Are you playing on the hardest difficulty level? Again, I don't think that should make a difference, but if you are, maybe try playing on medium? :/

I really think it might just be that the reticule makes me assume I should be hitting them and then I don't. Might just be a mind trick (har).

IIRC the rifle was actually pretty good at mid and short range, but for distant targets yeah, use the pistol.

Dark Forces 2's and Jedi Outcast's blaster rifles are balanced differently. :/

Jedi Outcast has a soft auto-aim with a dynamic crosshair that locks onto targets. This was a bad idea in the game. To turn it off, bring down the console while in-game:

SHIFT + `

Then type in:

helpusobi 1

cg_dynamicCrosshair 0

Exit the console.

Note: helpusobi 1 is used to turn on the 'cheat' mode, and the other command might not work without it.

You should now see that your crosshair doesn't jump slightly to lock onto targets.

You can also do this permanently by editing the jk2config.cfg file that you should find in the GameData/base directory, under your main Jedi Knight 2 install path.

To improve the aim of the E11 Storm-trooper Blaster Rifle, use the secondary fire mode (default RMB), and aim at the head. Enemies were notoriously difficult to take down in Jedi Outcast if you did not aim at the head or upper torso.

There are a lot of other 'enhancements' you can turn on via the console, like full lightsaber dismemberment, changing saber colour, etc.

It is normal (or we are both lame). It did the same thing to me 2 years ago. I could not hit anyone properly.

Maybe some games are meant not to be played again. The gameplay is so entrenched in a period that once its time os over, it becomes hard to replay these games.

It did the same thing in Morrowind too. I finished the game twice. But last year, I could not even clear the cave at the exit of Seyda Neen

I wonder if it would feel more right on a controller, it was an Xbox game first as I recall.
