cogadh: Why is it that every time someone calls someone else on a derogatory statement, somebody always has to call it "political correctness" as if that is somehow worse than the original offense? There is such a thing as just being plain rude and insulting, political correctness has nothing to do with it. This is a case just like that. For example, what if they had used an acronym that spelled out "NIGGER" or "KIKE" or something else equally derogatory, would you be crying "political correctness" if anyone complained about that? I seriously doubt it. So why is a derogatory term about a homosexual any different?

I suppose that can only be explained because culture has grown to accept some of those derogatory terms in special conditions. While I won't go into those as I am sure that all of you can work out what I mean for yourselves, the thing is that homosexuality is a very controversial issue, while something such as race, while it can be derogatory, it isn't quite as controversial because it is already established.
I tried to make that make sense, I'm not sure if I did though :)

So homosexuality is a very recent phenomenon in human culture? I beg to differ.
I didn't mean to come across with that point. Simply that while race is established as something final, many people view homosexuality as a choice, or even a sin. From there stems the controversy.

anjohl: Gay Women Against Rape.
Knights In Satan's Service.
People need to stop reading into stuff.

Except this time it was intentional. No one is reading in anything that wasn't intended.
Unfortunately IW seem to be pandering to the large number of homophobic idiotic 8 year olds (sorry Rohan15) who play their games, instead of trying to improve things. (or at the very least, not encouraging).

AlphaMonkey: It does seem like someone in the PR department needs to be fired. Immediately.

They already did. IW have been boasting about how they are handling their own PR, and it's so easy, every studio should do it.
sigh.

Wow, how long have been a mind reader? Are you the guy the police use to track down bodies and things? it must be pretty cool being able to tell *for sure* what someone means by something. You must be a rich man.

RTFA. Bowling, who works at IW said that it was intentionally in there and intended to be "social commentary". He's not a mind reader, he's an article reader.

You missed the point. IW has since admitted they knew it was a homophobic slur and used it anyway. Their only excuse was that it was a joke, as if that somehow mitigates the offensiveness of it. Their community manager Robert Bowling only had this to say when the viral was pulled:
"I agree. I think the core gag is great, the end is a bit too far from the intent of the joke & can appreciate the concerns. Pulled."
A bit too far from the intent!? How about bigoted, intolerant or prejudiced... saying a "bit too far" tells me they still are clueless about what they actually said in that ad.
I think their intentions were decent, but they had no idea how to do it right.
gah. I forgot the "never reply to anjohl rule!". ;-)

Wait, are you serious? This is *actually* an intentional dig at gay people? Oh, I honestly missed that. I am not being sarcastic here, I completely missed the point, or rather, the intent. Just forget all those past posts.
