Lifthrasil: Because it has different meaning. To lose is a verb, meaning you don't have something anymore afterwards. But if something is loose, it isn't necessary lost (yet), only not tight. But of course it is possible to lose something that's too loose.
I think he (or she) might have meant they're not sure how people can make that mistake. Or maybe not. :) Also, by extension, "loser" is often misspelled "looser", which can be entertaining in the right context. XD
