If you invest your 50 cents
Wisely in the bank
Safe and sound
Soon that 50 cents,
Safely invested in the bank,
Will compound

And you'll achieve that sense of conquest
As your affluence expands
In the hands of the directors
Who invest as propriety demands
Maybe this one: 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand

Just kidding! :-D

No, because once you threw in sales/use tax and adjusted for inflation, the bean counters would probably bump the cost up to .75 so the black would outweigh the red.

Ah, the benefits of public private partnership. Don't you love it when governments and corporations work together for the good of the common man?

Yeah, I thought it sounded very last century. The good old times. ;)

Not here.

When you have less than 1000$ in your bank account, they charge you service fees at certain intervals.

When I was a kid, I had 10$ in my bank account. 2-3 years later, when I went to withdraw the amount and close the account, I found out that they had already closed my account, because the recurring fee had made my account balance negative.

That day, I learned a valuable lesson in capitalism (or more fundamentally, leverage dynamics in free for all economics): You gotta have leverage to get respect. If you have leverage, people will treat you with consideration. If you don't, they'll screw you over.

In the case of the bank, the leverage is the amount you have in your account and to what extent they'll be hurting if you pull it out. If you have a lot, they won't charge you recurring fees and call it good service to keep a customer. If you have little they'll help themselves to some of what you got and tell you to go elsewhere if you are unhappy.

<snip>
I remember quite a bit of this... Years ago when I was a lot poorer, I had an account at Washington Mutual (long before it got bought out/merged). Since I had it as the primary deposit location, any fees were negated as long as you had like $300 go in a month.

Naturally after I got in the army I never used the account, and it had like $10 in it. When I got mail through FDIC telling me to contact the bank and claim it, when I did they had already charged the account to 0, so I just closed the account and called it good.

It is a very different day and age than it used to be, and that's sorta sad. Probably what's worse is there's probably going to be a crash eventually, and delaying it will probably only make it worse...

I sang it to my daughter today as I carried her through the woods in the rain. She'll grow up happily warped, hopefully.

This matches well my own childhood banking experience. Still, I like the song.

You could go to a second hand shop in Oregon, if that's the sticker price. The hundred or so dollars in gas may not be worth it, though.

But what if I want to buy bread crumbs to feed the pigeons in the park?

Sorry you need Tuppence for that.

zeffyr: You can't find anything cheaper than 1$ (e.g. The Pilgrim DLC), the cheapest standalone games were like 1,2$ in the discount (Commandos if I can recall).
Wasn't Super Hexagon was on sale once for less than a dollar?
