Has something changed with 2.0 installers as none of the 1.0 installers I've used ever asked if I wanted another PDF reader or installed one without my knowledge. I know the option have been there since start of GOG but for me it never popped up but then again I've always had Adobe Reader installed. I believe they did change the default reader from Adobe to Foxit (or does it allow to choose?) at some point at user base request.

If the option wasn't there, there would be lot more complaints about not being able to read manuals and other game documentation.

I'm sure some people will appreciate it. I don't like it though, partly because it perhaps seems inconsistent? I think some installers do and some don't. So you get used to not doing it and then suddenly one goes through that does and you're caught off guard. Secondly because it's on by default.

Give me the option, sure, that's perfectly fine. Just don't have it automatically be on just because I don't have a PDF reader installed yet.

Edit: And as the above I think because I'm on Win8 it failed the check for me as well.

I don't really understand the problem here. If the Installer detects that there's no PDF reader installed on your machine, it will give you the OPTION to install one. If it does, it won't. Also Foxit is a good PDF reader anyway.

Again, I don't know why people see this as a negative.

As I've said, I have always installing Foxit set on OFF when I run GOG installers. I just checked.

It may be a problem with GOG installer not recognizing all PDF software correctly.

Also, it should be checked OFF on Windows8 as default.

As I've said. It doesn't matter. I don't want it installing by default even when I don't have any PDF readers installed (yet).

It suddenly being on when a situation arises when you don't is just annoying, since it normally isn't, so it catches you off guard. I could've used the same installer countless times with no problems. And then after a windows install you think you're reinstalling just the game so you do the same as always and then poof, Foxit install. That's just not the right way to do it in my opinion. Warn me I don't have a PDF reader installed and make me decide before being able to continue the process. Don't just add an already checked checkbox on the install process.

Is it better when Steam installs DirectX every time you install your new games and doesn't even bother to ask you if you want it?

GOG has the best solution that should satisfy every party. It should remember if you checked PDF software installing OFF in registry, though.

People who don't have any PDF software installed and don't want to install any are rather not that big group to change it for everybody.

GOG installer is noob friendly. Deal with it and click the fucking checkbox.

GOG doesn't want support tickets with "GOG, I can't read your manuals!!!!!" either.

Steam / Valve have nothing to do with that. Some people cry that 'Steam wants to install DirectX' with every game because the game's developers didn't state that the package needs to be installed silently.

And besides, installing the DirectX redistributable package, whenever a game needs a file that is packaged in it, is always the best option.

10-20 seconds of an additional installation time per game, or the game not working at all?

... btw, do you think that the GOG installers do not install the package? They do, but it seems part of the actual installation process for the game, that's why nobody cries about it (Inno Setup can call executables silently).

What 3 people? O.o Also, how many people who choose to buy their games off GOG don't know how to read .pdf files? I mean, there was that dude who wanted a refund because two games were too difficult for him to play, but in general, my impression of the people on these forums is not one of tech imbeciles.

From what I've read these are often Game specificly configured. That'd be like complaining about yet another Dos-Box with a same or slightly different config being installed with lots of GOG games, which is something I'm not doing. The amount of people affected doesn't change my opinion, but if you want to go that route, I think there's a fair change that the amount of people who don't have PDF installed and don't want FOX-it installed but use their own PDF solution -> People who don't have PDF installed and want the (possibly outdated) Foxit installer in their GOG Game installer. So perhaps they should 'Deal with it'.

All 3 people who DON'T have any PDF reader installed and DON'T want to install any. Because it's the only situation when GOG installer tries to force you to install the reader.

@up: I don't fucking undestand you. If you have installed ANY pdf reading software, GOG installer has installing foxit disabled by DEFAULT. So if you have your "pdf solution", you are not affected.

No it is not. I just mentioned the issue few posts above, the installer did not detect my WinRT application that handles PDF files.

And this should be updated. NOT disabled for everybody.

As I've said, it should AT LEAST remember your last setting. If you checked it as OFF, it should be off every other time. (if the installer couldn't recognize PDF software correctly)

I do have to applaud them for fixing up the GE issues, providing new desktop icons, and basically updating the installers... that was much needed.

Now if they remove the bloat (15MBs installer vs 8 MBs installer when you strip down the additional stuff), they would be even nicer.

EDIT: And it leaves two Registry keys and one empty folder after uninstallation, that should be fixed.
