Maybe Licurg could explain how I might get multiplayer working in Sacrifice. There is little information on the forums and what little there is, is inconsistent. The game wouldn't take the cd-key from the GOG email and even if it had I wouldn't know whether to install the unofficial multiplayer patch (some seem to claim it contains a virus, others insist it is necessary for hosting online games.) There is just no guide or sticky that makes it clear.

Barefoot_Monkey: Giants is the first thing you should play. Then I recommend MDK (but be prepared for rather archaic mouse control that's awkward for a while until you get used to it, then it's brilliant) and MDK2 after that. Fallout games are great when you have time to get into a big RPG. Descent hold up surprising well if you're in the mood for a 6DF shooter, especially if you happen to have a joystick.
Will a gamepad do?

I don't know, I never played it online. I just play off-line against the AI.
I really like Jagged Alliance 2: UB and Fallout Tactics, but I love isometric tactical games so it's natural.

Oh, I thought it was mainly popular as multiplayer. The single player campaign only lets you use one character, which is no fun, so I guess that just leaves the scenario mode, which only has one demo map if you don't add the extra maps to the scenario subfolder of the maps folder.

What?!?! Dude, the single-player campaign is THE main attraction. It has 5 campaigns, with amazing voice-acting, a great storyline, and several twists you won't see coming. So start playing now. Did I mention it has one of the best level-design ever? :P

I guess I'm coming at it from too much of an RPG perspective, and I like some of the other models better.

It does have a good campaign, although maddeningly difficult.

You don't like Eldred? :((

I honestly have no idea, but a quick glance at the Descent forum looks promising. It certainly would be great to have 2 analogue controls instead of just 1.

He is just a bit less fantastical than some of the others. I like the skinny one with the unicorn horn and I like the twins.

You can play in the custom games with those :/ Just do the campaigns, trust me.

OK, but I at least need to get multiplayer working.

Well, I don't think you can find anyone for online play, even if you do. If you wanna play against the AI, just go to "Multiplayer", then select your character, then press "Local Game", then choose a map, and afterwards you pick out the bots and their respective factions.

Oh, OK, I thought this was one that would have a multiplayer fan base. Well thank you for your help.

The Descent, Earthworm Jim(1-2), and Fallout games are the standouts for me but I also enjoyed these a good deal:

Freespace 2
Giants: Citizens Kabuto
Sacrifice
Shogo

Liked these but not great:

Castles
Conquest of the New World
Kingpin
M.A.X.
MDK 1-2
Redneck Rampage
Stonekeep

I did not like:
Die by the Sword
Earthworm Kim 3D
Lionheart
Shattered Steel
