overread: Amazon and Ebay would be my suggestions as well. Far as I recall Imperium Galactica 2 did end up being sold through the various "sold out software" CD companies so you can still pick up some used or even new editions of the game.

I agree that IG2 would be fantastic to have on GOG - its one of the few if only really fun 4* space sims that has land and space battles as well as a proper colony development setup (as opposed to the typical limited slots approach that most others copy off Master of Orion games).

yxomoron: Thanks for the answers guys, I will check it out :)

Btw: Recently released Endless Space is pretty good as well. Probably the first 4x game I'm really enjoying since IG2 times...
Conquest Frontier Wars is due in here (GoG) in the next few days, it's more RTS than anything but it's got a really unique look and involves using wormholes to connect solar systems to create trade routes to kill bad guys, so you might want to check that out.

AND...if you want pure turn based space conquering with little in the way of graphics check out STARS! Problem is, I don't even know how to get it anymore.

Conquest is one of those games I consider a missed gem. Had it myself for years and its fantastic fun - the only downside is that they never got the development time/money or further investment for an expansion to do campaigns for all 3 factions; but they did a very good and solid campaign (with cinematics) for their primary faction.

Great game and I'd forgotten that it was coming to gog :)
If you haven't voted for it already, it and its predecessor are on the wishlist:

We really need this game on GOG and compatible with windows XP and Win7.

This is the best 4x and the best 4x RTS game I have ever played the entire package is amazing and well ahead of his time.
It was one of the first games to actually use RPG elements dynamics quests and missions, with a sort of sim city game, ground battles, space battles, starship design, complex spying system with leveling, races and missions and a serious diplomatic and trade game.

Nothing was broken everything work good enough, UI design was also very good once you learn how to use it and the music fitted the game perfectly.

BTW NEXUS is NOT Imperium Galactica not by a LONG SHOT! The closer would be Haegemonia but even both would not fully cover all IG 2 Features.

Really hope I can get my hands on IG 2 again... Btw Digital reality announced a new MMO based on Imperium Galactica and a New engine, we need more fans to try to persuade them to go for an IG 3 singleplayer 4x RTS with multiplayer.

Check their website at digitalreality dot eu

Yeah, the IG3 announcement only for multiplayer really kills it for me. Single player games are a dying breed nowadays...shame.
The original Imperium Galactica had everything already back in 1997, what the sequel brought was basically nice 3D (but incomplete, missing species specific buildings and ground vehicles) graphics and full CGI videos.
The ways of GT Interactive and Digital Reality parted after IG2 so DR released their next game as Haegemonia, which was a poor Homeworld clone only. I have no idea why, IG had a much better concept. I believe they didn't have the time and the money to make something like those games again.
I didn't buy many games back then, IG2 and Haegemonia Collector's were among them. The later was a huge disappointment tho, the only thing that did worth something was the novel in the Collector's package.

I would like to see the first part on GoG, it had a better story line, awesome videos with real actors and a morbid humour. (personality test answer at the beginning of the game: "Mass destruction is the biggest thrill." :D)

tanc0917: I don't think DR has the funding to finish IG3 anyway, I think the reason why they want to co-develope the game with the players is because they need money to actually finish it. Pretty sad, they are a talented team and I would love to play something like the original IG games again.

Bravado: I see, thank you for that information.
However, I am not sure if it is worth trying one more time to make IG2 work as it failed the same way on a machine with older hardware and OS.
I now believe that either a proper GOG version is needed ;) , or me and others need hard copies.

You know, I usually don't give half a crap about online games like this. But, for Imperium Galactica, I may be giving it a shot. Not that I expect much, but I'll give them the chance to surprise me.

EDIT: I tried it out and, well... not exactly great. It feels more like an ogame evolution than Imperim galactica game. Stupid shop creeping around, timers. You can't really sit down and play since it's meant to be for short activity periods every now and then, yet it doesn't have a construction queue. All in all, not the game for me.

I would step on baby kittens for a GOG version of IG2.
As near as I can tell, the rights to Imperium Galactica 1 & 2 are still with GT Interactive/Infogrames/Atari, but that's just based on what I can tell from Wikipedia. :P

I'm guessing it's a bit more complex as the first game is simply MS-DOS (shouldn't be too complex compatibility-wise) and it isn't even here yet.
*digs around for his copy of IG2.. 4 disks werent they? *...ahhhh will try with the patches later.hmmm

I'm still hoping for IG2 to show up here one day. Best 4X game ever.

I'll second this, for no other reason than I agree.

^This. I think I've made it work with wine at some point. Still a proper working and supported version would be nice.
Maybe we should contact the devs. They must have the rights and the sources if they've released on the Icraps and android
