The End Might be Near*. Better Play Some Games!

We don't really know if the Mayans were right
Will the 21st be the Earth's final night?
If it really is, we know we'd want to be
Spending our last hours enjoyably

The end of the world, and the bundles we bring
Are a wondrous package--an incredible thing
All the daily deals for the whole month today shine
We've even brought ones from the future in asynchronous time

Of all of the days of the year 2012
This is the one for gamers just like yourselves
To pick up some games before the world ends
And spend your last day having fun times with friends

Some say the world ends in fire--or ice
We think that neither ending sounds nice
If the world has to end--neither frozen nor flaming
The world should end in a way that says: gaming!

There's and [url=https://secure.gog.com/gamecard/the_witcher_2]Witcher, and and [url=https://secure.gog.com/gamecard/duke_nukem_3d_atomic_edition]Duke
And Deus Ex, , or [url=https://secure.gog.com/gamecard/thief_gold]Thief
So before the world leaders launch thousands of nukes
Spend a few moments and suspend disbelief

Theme Hospital, , [url=https://secure.gog.com/gamecard/caesar_3]Caesar 3 and Trine
It sure was nice living, but we're just out of time
Ultima Games, from 1 to game 9
The aliens are invading--we must hold the line!

, [url=https://secure.gog.com/gamecard/wing_commander_1_2]Wing Commander, and indie FTL
Crusaders and Heroes of Magic and Might
The end is approaching boys; see you in hell
Bruce Willis can't save us from this meteorite

Quests for Kings and for Space and for Heroes and Glory
and [url=http://www.gog.com/promo/telltale_adventures]Telltale
The abyss is erupting--this will surely be gory
Frogs are raining down in amphibious hail

The world may be ending, our last day is nigh
So take this last chance to play games 'till you die!

*GOG.com in no way endorses The End of The World. We like it here. If you have a Death Star, a Death Ray, or a fleet of Cyber T-rexes with Lasers, please don't destroy the Earth right now. At least wait until we release that game that everyone's waiting for. And that one, too. No, that one probably will never happen.
I think one thing you guys are forgetting is all the extras you get with the games. Soundtracks, Artwork, Manuals, Videos, Etc.

The soundtrack for most of these games is worth more than what GOG charges for the game itself. On steam you're lucky to even get a manual most of the time.

If you couldn't tell, I love getting soundtracks for my games :)

Keep up the good work GOG.
Honestly, I'm a little upset. I bought a number of games a few days ago when it was all 50% off, and now you've lowered it even further. If I'd known that I would've waited to buy anything. The money I could've saved would've allowed me to get a couple more, and now I don't have enough left over to buy anything else cause I used up the amount I'd allotted for holiday game sales.

Don't get me wrong, 75% off is awesome! I just wish we could've had some sort of warning, or something, or maybe you could've just done it as that the whole sale instead of brand specific ones.

As you've been here since October 2009 i'd have thought you would know what to expect on GOG.

Not always. I would pay GOG.com for the Alan Wake Soundtrack. But the soundtrack is only available as part of the Collectors Edition - which is not available for GOG customers. Every customer who bought the Steam Version anywhere can buy the Collector's Edition Extras anytime.

Legend of Grimrock from GOG lacks simple Mod Support aka Steam Workshop and even the Dungeon Editor Beta was Steam only and not for GOG costumers.

Your point is valid for all the "good old games" but the new releases and Indie Games GOG sometimes offers less than other competitors...
Speaking of soundtracks. Legend of Grimrock includes the "main theme" as mp3 - the soundtrack is available as part of the Humble Bundle 7.

EDIT: Nevermind, the "Soundtrack" from the Humble Bundle is just the main theme...

I don't recall them going as low as 75% last year. I can't even remember if they did it in 2010 or 2009 - and in any case, weren't enough games I was interested in back in '09.

Also, I'm looking at the prices, and they do not, in fact, appear to be 75% off, however the email I got said 75% off on over 125+ games.

Good point. I guess I was thinking more of the older games. (Heroes of Might and Magic series, Icewind Dale, Etc.)

Newer games I will often buy on Steam depending on what difference there is between other distributors. I do have over 200 games in my Steam library after all lol.

I guess the best thing to do is to weigh your options and go with what you feel is best.

Pelmenji: But the same goes for the comparison with Steam, as here you get the game DRM-free (and often with fancy boni), while on Steam you buy something of a "Licence" to play it. Of course it's cheaper there as they have much more control over the game (and your ability to play it).
avatar
Rincewind81: This is a strange opinion. Steam sells games cheaper because they have the control over the game and only selling a license to play? Same for GOG - yes you get an installer here, you can make a copy for yourself and install this without internet connection but to be honest, but in the end everything you buy from GOG is "something of a "Licence" to play it"... Your games are tied to your account and you are not allowed to sell your games and you are unable to unbind them from your account to give them to an other person. So - whats the difference from Steam, Gamersgate and others?
What happens if both Steam and GOG tank it?. I know which customer is more likely to have copies of his games locally and still able to play them ;)

I love the sountracks that come with games bought through GOG, although the annoying trend right now are devs selling the soundtracks separately, or adding them to higher bundles which GOG either can't or unable to sell (maybe unwilling at too high a price).

Question. If i buy a bundle, it only comes with one key right?. What about bundle where i have at least one of the games? Or if i gift a whole bundle to someone else?.

It's the same only key... the games you have will still be in the key..

I wouldn't mind getting a couple of Telltale games but I'm not sure I will be able to get em working in Crossover. I do wish gog had the mac versions... :(

jpolastre: <glances at Witcher2 75% off once again>
Oh come on GOG, tempting me once wasn't enough?

(...must not... add... to cart...)
avatar
Lifthrasil: Why not? The Witcher 2 is a great game offering hours of addictive gameplay and $8 for such a relatively new game is a really low price.

So, just give in to your temptation. *waves hand* You want this game.
*dark voice* "Search your feelings. You know it is true."
Everything you said is true, but the point is that not even in my more fantastic dreams I would manage to shrink my backlog enough to play it for a really long while. (Bear in mind that while I like its genre, it's not my primary focus - so it wouldn't be top of my list.) Maybe by 2014...

So if I'm not gonna play I think it's foolish to buy the game after all. By the time I get down to it it will have been 75% off again a few times anyway.
GOG you glourious bastards, you snuck in the EA expansions without telling us well most of them from what I seen so far.

For which games? Alpha Centauri still havent got the expansion with it.....

Oh gods, do I know this feeling. After tallying up that I have more than 400 unfinished games, many I've still yet to touch, it's very difficult for me to argue that I need more games, although the urge to obtain them when they're so tantalizingly available (and cheap) is very strong.

Welcome to the world of the impulse buyer brother *high five* lol
